Rebuilding a GT28 Ball Bearing
Hey I was trying to search and find some info on this. I remember a guy named shogun or something along those lines he used to rebuild turbos and had great referals (Same guy who coats his turbos red if that helps?). I was wondering if anyone knew if he was still around, or someone they can refer me too. Approx. price figure would help alot. I'm going to call garett turbo when they open tommorow,
Thanks a bunch.

I was always under the impression that ball bearing turbos cant be rebuilt and you basically just had to buy a whole new center section...

Garrett will tell you that you need a new CHRA. I have heard of a few people successfully rebuilding GT series turbos, but have never seen it done. Mine always went out whilst under warranty, so I never had to worry about it.
Good luck getting it rebuilt.

I"ve rebuilt PLENTY of turbos, but in many cases, the Ball-bearing CHRAs cannot be rebuilt. If the compressor wheel is damaged, I have replaced them and made sure the housing was centered, but I do not go into the CHRA of the Steel-ball bearing cartridges. Once they are apart, the balance is messed up.
Rebuilding is fine. but be certain that they did not try to disassemble the cartridge as part of the repair.
Good luck with your rebuild.
