Really Worth Boosting a d16y8?
im a little confused.
whats a stage 2 greddy kit?
not a single greddy turbo has stages.
for you newbies that say its easy to get 220whp... do you even have a turbo sohc?
realistically you could get it to push close to 200whp... but its not gonna last. a b18c "might" be slower than a turbo sohc but guess which one is going to last longer.
btw, out of ten turbocharged sohc motors that i've seen. only one of them actually had a greddy kit.. the rest were ghetto pieced together. they didnt make good power... ran 15s at best.
one last thing: honestly you are about as fast a b18c hatch, plus or minus. but you are a lot more fun to drive.

If you can't smoke a car that has a b18c but is identical to yours and you have a turbo sohc, you did something wrong. You should be putting out more WHP and way more torque.
Now sushibug, there have been a handfull of people here that met the 220 mark with their sohc. Mine was at 206 at 9 PSI, a couple more pounds and I could have had it also.
Greddy sucks, and so does ghetto. Do it right with a custom, or buy a Revhard.

dont put a turbo on your D series. go for the glory and get the swap, then turbo. yea you can turbo a D series and beat slightly modded si's, gsr's, and other B series cars, but when you turbo a B series motor, your D series will get dismantled.
there is no easy way out. get the swap.

im in the same boat right now. im pulling my hair out trying to decide whether or not to boost a EX motor or if i should just do LS. the turbo car is going to be ALOT more fun to drive though.
Yes, but not every one has the option of swapping a B series.
Custom turbo is the way to go.
And its also better and cheaper to make your turbo mistakes on a D series rather than a B series....................no one cna argue with that!

Geez before adding your "Captain Obvious" remarks read what the original poster is after, of course a boosted B series engine will own "most' boosted sohcs.
I am making 196 whp @10psi 170whp@7-8psi all I would have to do is run 2 more psi and yeah theres 220whp, just like many other turbos sohcs out there..
You will have to do a fair bit of work to keep up with just a N/A B-series swap
My car has done over 20000kms since being boosted thats over a year without a single engine problem...
Now all the original poster wants as he has said is a bit more power, he will certainly get that and more, if he boosts his sohc..

Well ... thanks for everything guys.
I've decided to slow down for now and wait till i figure out what school im attending next semester and the fate of my car....
Then, if i keep my car, im probably going to swap for a b18c motor, because it will be comparable to the turbo sohc and more reliable, but i can always turbo that later and pull HARD! And i think that will be a lot more fun in the end.
