Probably a little OT for FI, but I thought since I wanted this for my nitrous setup it applied.

Aight, here's the switch I have. The connectors read, from left to right:

<U>Power, Load, Ground.</U>


Here's the fan switch. I'm putting spade connectors on each prong and running wires from there. The left side if pos. and the right side is ground.



My question is, where should I run wires? I want to be able to turn the fan on and off, regardless of whether the engine is running or the key is on.

Well the positive needs a constant 12volts and the neg needs ground so wire it up that way and just put the switch either to interupt the 12 v or the ground wire.

How do I do that? I am gonna run a wire coming from the pos batt. to the left spade connector. The ground will go into the cabin to the switch. Which terminal do I put it on, and what do I do with the other two?

well depending on the switch if its just a simple on/off switch you go from the negative on the fan switch to one of the terminals on the on/off switch and then from the other terminal on the on/off switch to ground.Just imagine a straight line with the switch in the middle sort of like a break in the line?

I posted a pic of the switch. It's an on/off toggle and It's got three terminals. one power, one ground, and one load. How would I wire it then?

I am sorry i didnt even notice the pic of the switch well I am in no way a pro when it comes to wiring but usually switches with three terminals are illuminated and the terminal for illumination would need a 12v source but if you dont really need it to be illuminated then just get a regular two terminal switch.

the pic is a lil fuzzy so i'm not 100% sure.. but i believe i have the same switch.. this sort of switch has a built-in indicator light that is active when GROUND is connected..

the +12V goes to the POWER, the device you're trying to control goes to LOAD.. GROUND is purely for the indicator light

and i think you're looking at the wrong end of the thermo switch, you need to wire into the connector side, not the thermo switch itself

get rid of that switch and use a simplle on/off toglle switch or use the load terminal with either the ground or power terminal. and wire it like the pic below. This way your fan still functions *** normal and you can turn it on if you whant to.

.


This way you wont forget to flip the switch if the car is hot and blow up your motor.

Thats what I was trying to tell him above but i think he wants illumination so he knows it is on?

this is how i did it (this is for a civic, most cars should have a similar setup).. the thermoswitch itself is just a switch that closes when the temp reaches 93deg, it doesn't power the fan itself, to get the fan to turn on, you need to send 12V to the fan relay

I guess there is about a million metods of doing this. every one does the same. grounding the realy coil so the realy turns the fan on. (same thing the fan switch does.)
