Default Radiator fan???

Anyone know if it is a good idea to tap the radiator fan to stay on as soon as you turn the ignition on???? Also where would be the best wire to tap into????

Just run it from any constant 12v source and ground it. I tapped mine from my alarm siren.

Why would you want to do this? It is completely unneccessary 90% of the time, and more importantly, will make it harder for you to keep tabs on your temps, unless you have a coolant temp gauge(not stock). The fan switching on/off is a good way to know when you're running too hot, etc.

Hey thats true, but wouldn't your engine be better cool. See I'm kinda new to forced induction and I just want to be safe in every way possible.

It works well, it does take longer for your car to warm up but, most people's water temp gauges stays at around 180-185 mine stays at about 5-10 degree's cooler with the fan running all the time. I would say it is unessasary if you are running stock motor but very benefical if you are running a turbo or high compression all motor set up

It also depends highly on what kind of driving you do. If you do alot of hard city driving, maybe it's a better option, but at highway speeds, your rad. fan is doing absolutely nothing, contrary to popular belief. Your best bet would be to rig it to a switch, so you could put it on solid when you plan on driving hard at lower speeds.

You make a good point I might have to set mine up to a switch.

Thanks!! Exactly what I was looking to here. That sounds like what I'll end up doing, rigging my own switch. Like you said you'll never know how your going to be driving.

Hey guys I know this is a little off the subject. But how about using the radiator as a oil cooler. What I mean is that, you know how automatics uses the radiator to cooler the tranny fluids. Can I do the same and would it work???

I doubt you need to worry about an oil cooler...what kind of power are you making?

See we're still working on my brothers car and we're going to install (oil cooler) one on his tonight. But I just thought that using the radiator would work the same for $nothing. Also less hassel of running extra hoses and finding a good home for it in the engine bay. It should still work the same "right"???? For my ride it is still in the "works" nothing major. Its a stock JDM b18c GSR from Hmotorsonline with a Drag3 kit and custom 3" dp. FMU missing link for now until I can sell my B16a2 head to get a hondata.
