Default Quick question for the turbo experts.

Ok before I pull my d16a6 out for the swap (in about a month) I thought I would try turboing it. I have been doing a lot of reading and I'm pretty sure I have everything figured out. My question is: Instead of finding a turbo manifold (doing it cheap) I was just going to build a manifold. (I've built custom headers before for N/A motor's) I can have the flange for the turbo and the Head flange made at work and I've got the tubing to build a "header" Now my question, should all four cylinders run into the turbo? or would just running two cylinders together and running them into turbo be allright. It seems like a fun project to try this weekend(I'll build the manifold at work). I'll post pic's and let you know what happens when I'm done. Thanks in advance

i just reread your question more carefully, and your idea will work, and in fact its been utilized before ie. Papadakis' previous civic made by hytech.

post some pics when you're done sounds like a neat project.

yeah I hear Hytech makes some funky looking equal runner length manifolds, the design is pretty good too.

I remember Dr James from po.com had one for his Prelude.

If you are gonna go that far and have access to that type of machinery... why don't you start planning a twin turbo design using the other two runners ?? Heh heh.... just a thought.

Equal length turbo headers don't work off the same principals as n/a headers. Turbos work (spin) off of heat, not flow. Anything you can due to conserve heat (temp) to the turbo will be helpful. Perfectly matched lengths probably will not. Need to do your mani out of stainless for strenth. Best to place your waste gate flange in an area where it can draw off of all 4 cyls. Thin tubing of n/a won't hold heat or support the weight of the turbo without proper bracing. Post your pix!

Umm what's the purpose of turboing a engine if you plan on pulling it out in a month. Keep your sohc and spend that 3-4k on the buildup/standalone. Unless you already have the engine and your very bored.

I had fabricate a manifold from a header on my old civic/B18C1..,.....I was using a T25 turbo off of an Eclipse. I didn't have to use any supporting bracket or anything since the turbo was so small....but I have seen on a miata, that they fab a bracket to support a bigger turbo like a T3/4e...A bracket would be a good idea...

Also, I have seen a collectors flange for a T3, to where you can have all four runners welded in the collectors, instead of trying to cut and weld each runner to one another...

you can make it work, now how eeficient it is, it's up to your design...
Mine did work, allthough everything was all ghettoed up...but this was back when nobody makes a turbo kit for honda yet....so if you want turbo, gotta make it on your own..
