Default Quick Question...Re-using Headgasket...

I just assembled my motor (LS-V) to find out that the bottom end is no good. (low on compression)

Can I re-use the headgasket (It was brand new, oem LS) after I pull it off? I didn't run the motor, didn't even fill it with coolant or oil.....

Thanks

no. I think that's the reason I blew my headgasket.

once they are squashed they cant seal correctly on another engine.

Exactly, They are crush style gaskets and do not seal properly after being torqued once. It sucks and I have just recently been though the same situation as you (bad bottom end) but, you gotta do it right and buy a new gasket.

If its very low boost, I'd say yes if you spray it with that copper stuff. Otherwise...no. As proof that reusing it is okay for NA, my z6 pulled a perfect 200psi with my brother's Snap-On comp tester. I reused the OEM HG, actually used thin film of copper impregnated silicone (hell, it worked on all those V8's I did) due to not having the spray. Has 1k miles on it since it was reassembled (reusing oem headbolts), and I'm rather hard on it.

BTW why wouldn't you replace the bearings and rings when doing LS/VTEC? Its the least you can do to spin it past 7500 reliably.

it's cool to reuse in a normal situation (low boost or n/a) just copper spray both sides....but, it should just be a temp thing until you can get a new one in hand
