Default quick PWM BBG ?

should this solenoid be mounted as close to the wastegate as possible?

I would honestly say keep it away from wastegate, or in a area with airflow. Heat can effect its operation. Distance means nothing as muckman stated. However i would make sure its away from high heat areas

Whats your experience with that? I wouldn't think heat would affect a solenoid.

Sure no problem... Also mac Valves are only rated to about 175 degrees. Which if located near the exhaust is easily obtained.

I use to work as a mechanical engineer tech. WE constantly used Mac valves on the production line. I had to relocate many due to them constantly failing from being close to high heat sources.

More techincal info:

Both the ambient temperature of the solenoid environment and the self -heating of the solenoid at work must be considered. The resistance of the coil varies with temperature which affects force output. The self-heating temperature is dictated by the duty cycle. Each 1¡ increase above 20º C equates to an increase of 0.39% of rated resistance; thereby reducing force or torque output.

175*F is a good fact to know. I have a temperature probe next to my ignition coil which just happens to be within an inch of my mac solenoid too. I know that it never rises above 100*F in that area of the engine bay.

The reason I ask is because on the dyno recently I experienced heat soak where back to back runs of the same duty cycle would result in lower boost pressure. If we let the car cool down for ~5 mins the boost would come back up. I assumed this was due to rising intake temps but now I’m wondering if solenoid heat was a factor too. Do you think <100*F is hot enough to reduce the output of the solenoid at a high duty cycle?

I would say yes its definatly possible.

I know my settings for BBG change from winter to summer, so that would be based on ambient tempatures only. Are you running a high duty cycle? the higher the duty cycle the hotter the coil inside can get which would increase resistance in the coil. That could change the setting slighlty...I would think that would be very insignificant though. I think heatsoak and ambient tempatures would have a bigger impact for sure.

I have mine next to the cruise control unit is on the drivers side. Away from any heat source. I do notice a difference from ambient tempature for sure. Not really back to back pulls tho

Good info. My mac solenoid its kinda of loosely laying on the trans right now and I have noticed its inconsistencies. Will fix the location this winter.
