Quick boost by gear question
Hey guys, gonna be sitting my car up w/boost by gear this spring. I've done some reading and getting mixed answers so figured I'd ask a few people on here that has this set up on their car right now. I'm currently running off WG (15psi) . I want to swap springs to a 10lb (WG) and turn the car up to 30psi this coming yr. Ive seen people say that the 3valve Hondata solenoid works and some say they have probs. I've also seen where people are using the MAC 4valve solenoid to get that high. What are u guys using and are u having any probs out of ur set up? Just looking to get some good info before I make the decision on what solenoid to get. Thanks in advance

Re: Quick boost by gear question
i dont think its a problem with the valve at all its the fact of trying to push the spring to far i have the mac 3 port valve on my car and originally dyno tuned with a 5lb ebay spring in my waste gate and it took 77% duty cycle to make 21 psi i then change to a 12lb blue tial spring re tuned and the same 21psi is reached at 44% duty cycle so id say a 10lb name brand spring should have no problem getting you what you want on a decent duty cycle

Thank u!!!.... That's the type of info I want (duty cycles and what not). That's about the range of spring I was gonna try (10psi). I just wanna make sure that the 30psi will be reachable w/the 10psi spring Anybody else have spring rates and duty cycles on their set ups??? Let's hear em!!!

Re: Quick boost by gear question
no problem and the general rule is that with the solenoid you can make 2-4 times the spring pressure, i will tell you that in my car the 5psi spring sucked because it wouldnt make the boost it needed in third gear because the spring was to light,

Re: Quick boost by gear question
In the Smanager for s300 it says 3-4x spring pressure is achievable. I'm assuming this is with the 3 port valve because they give directions for installing a 3 valve and not a 4. I use a 3 port and 8 lb spring. 20 psi holds steady at 65% duty cycle.

Also will depend on what Duty Cycle you set the valve at.
40 hz gives you a narrow range, but allows finer adjustment. 31 hz gives you a wider range, and not quite as fine (but enough)....I think i've tried down to 25hz as well.
