Default Quick BLOCK question-

I have a chance to buy a sleeved C5 Block. It has about 100 track miles and seems to be in fairly good condition. My question is, the block is bored to 84.5mm sleeve. Will I have to get the blocked bored more when I go to put my pistons and rods in. I'm sure it's an easy enough question I just wanted to make sure.

Thanks for any help

yes you will have to bore it out so th rings can properly seat. also look into piston rings that have more piston to wall clearance because piston rings on turbo cars tend to expand more due to more heat

No no no, all you have to do is hone it, so your rings seat properly.

The only time you should bore it more is if it has serious scaring, damige on the sleeves or if you wanna run a 85mm piston which i wouldn't recomend you do.

All it needs is a nice hone jobby and you will be set to go.

Boosted oem cylinders will baloon in the center or sometimes go egg shaped. The only way to tell is to measure the cylinder with precision bore guages. If you hone a cylinder in that condition, the rings will not seat. Just looking at the cylinder will tell you nothing.

Well I just bought an 85mm block, from renoracing, and he claims that it was lightly honed before he sold it to me. Do I need to re-hone it, or can I just buy 85mm pistons and install them?

84.5mm is pushing the limits...I'd seriously re-think about purchasing that block. The norm seems to be 83mm...search

what about aftermarket sleeves?

Does this ballooning happen at high boost levels only?

I used to want a C5 too but when you think about, you are replacing all the internals basically and it is no longer a "C5"...I know someone will chime in about the crank and what-not but to me it's not worth paying for it....stick with the C1
