Default Questions About Street Tuning...new question

recently i decided that the greddy emanage wasnt cutting it and is a waste of my time and was more frustration then it was worth....so now i have the opportunity to get the car street tuned using uberdata/turboedit one of them... my question is how safe is Street tuning compared to tuning on the dyno......in my mind i see street tuning with the wideband and datalogging better casue this is how i will be really driving my car.....what do you guys think and what information do you have for me about street tuning..

setup is a
d16z6
greddy 15g turbo kit
stock injectors
5-8psi boost
dsm 1g intercooler

any info would be helpful

there is nothing wrong with street tunning, i just like the dyno because you can see what helps and what hurts your power curv. one more thing you dont have to worry about cops when doing 4th gear wot pulls

12:1 is a good safe afr for street tuning.

Are you tuning it yourself or paying a reputable uberdata tuner to tune it? I had phiz tune my gsr turbo on the street, its very reliable. The only downfall is that you can't see your numbers unless you hit the dyno, but some people just care about reliability instead of squeezing out every last ounce of power.

Plus you can always hit the dyno at another time and see your #'s.

Why does it have to be 4th WOT and not 2nd or 3th WOT?

Street tuning is a very very powerful tuning utility which a large percentage of tuners will use as long as the car is street friendly.

The big plus with street tuning is, on the dyno you can tune for a paticular AFR and when you put your tires on the road, a whole set of new variables come into play.

Speaking from the DIY perspective, the streets are free. Find a nice street where you can do some 3rd gear pulls. get your map as perfect as possible as far as AFR goes. Then if you want numbers and to fine tune, jump on the dyno and finish tweaking the ignition tables and smooth out your power band a bit.

All in all, i would rather spend 2 hours on a car on the streets than 2 hours on the dyno. If the car is street driven, it should be put on the street and tuned. Some tuners will disagree, but thats their opinion and i have mine as a "tuner"

So in what gear do I have to street tune? In 4th or 3rd?

from what i know now...is all the gears except fifth...i guess there just 2 or 3 pulls per gear to get the a/f and fuel tables right....

3rd or 4th should be fine. i did dyno pulls in both gears, but i did my street pulls in 3rd, cause 90mph was fast enough to be going in a 55 zone

Street Tunning allows you to adjust in real world situations. The dyno is more like an ideal situation. Things like throttle response, acceleration and deceleration maps cannot be adjusted on the dyno because they wont mean much. A certain amount of tunning HAS to be done on the street for a DD car.

no im running a emanage...wich is a glorified fmu.

on that note i have a new question:

right now the car runs smooth at 7psi on the stock injectors...when i get uberdata will it still run the same with the stock injectors...i know that in the near future i will be getting dsm 450's , but for 7psi are the bigger injectors necessary?...i was told to just for the time being get a fuel pump....
