block girdle are these nessasary on a built motor. I have a built sleeved 2.0 liter ls vtec, I was just wondering if I should throw one on or can I go with out it. Does the girdle make my motor more safe?

any info would be appreciated

The girdle will aid in strengthening the mains by tying them together. If you have a sleeved block then the mains already lost some of their rigidity.
Yes, a girdle will help your motor last longer and keep the crank/oil pump happy.
As with everything else, there is a right way and a wrong way to have the girdle installed.
Here is a great example of an excellent girdle. With this one you can use a stock oil pan....others you may not be able to. I am a dealer for these, contact me if your interested.

the one thing you have to make sure of when using the after market girdles is that you have a machine shop put it in due to the clearences will throw off the main caps and then you have crank walk... but I would just not use it and keep it off since it didnt come with one and just not rev it past 8500 and you will be safe

Actually crank walk is something totally different. That is when there is excessive movement with the crank from being pushed back and forth with the clutch....or movement from the #1 to #5 mains. This is where the thrust bearings come into play.

If your not going to take it past 8 then I wouldnt even worrie about putting one in. I mean yeah I would if you where going to have a machine shop do it so all the clearences are right then you could go up to 9. but its your motor and your the one building it so its really up to you. good luck hope everything works out for you

good point, has anyone had a problem due to having an aftermarket girdle?

I would def get one b.c of the length of stroke. If it was a B16 then I wouldn't do it, but it wouldn't hurt.

Endyn makes a nice one also.

Why bother tying 3 mains together? Might as well just get a stock GSR girdle for all that. If your gonna do it, do it right the first time and get all 5 tied up. Not saying Endyn's is bad......there price is less expensive though, but you get what you pay for I suppose.
