Question for Hondata Tuners (Long)
My 96 Civic EX threw CEL over weekend. This is what's been done to it:
1) Hondata 2b w/ RC 440 injectors & P28 ECU
2) JRSC w/ Endyn 10 psi pulley
I took car to couple of local mechanics to see if they could read code, but they had no luck due to my car having non-96 ECU. Have any of you run into this problem? How can I get around it? Car is now @ local Honda dealer, as I was told, they may have more luck w/ this matter. However, I'm unsure if they would be able to handle modified vehicle.
This is what was going on after CEL came on:
1) Idle would surge from 900-1500 RPM when car is warm,
2) Car would lurch several time when I'm on gas & stop when I let go. Oddly, this seems to happen when I'm near 2000 RPM.
Does anyone have idea what may be causing this? I'm told that one of sensors is probably bad. This leads to another problem. I have no idea where my MAP sensor was relocated during Hondata install.
Thanks for help!

you can still jump the ECU and read the CEL code, even if its not obd2. those mecahnics were just lazy asses and didn't want to do that, since obd2 can use a scan tool simply to read codes.
possible errors-- if you are running a 10 psi pulley with the stock map, there's a chance that it went over the 10.65 psi that the stock map allows for, and threw a code.
did it clear at all? or just stay on?

Re: Question for Hondata Tuners (Ant-man)
Just tell them to treat your car as if it were a 92-95 Civic as far as the codes go. Sounds like your idle air control valve has gone bad, possibly throttle position sensor but thats not likely. MAP sensor would not cause your problem I dont think.

Re: Question for Hondata Tuners (VaporTrail)
I agree with john, it's either fast idle valve or Idle air control valve. Obviously it has to with coolant, since it happens when it's warming up.
One way you can check, take both valves one at a time. usually if they're gone, you'd hear a clicking when you shake them, it sounds liek something is loose inside.

Re: Question for Hondata Tuners (Ant-man)
this is a dumb reply but I had a simular issue myself with my 96. It had to change out my plugs and gap them to .028. Also when was the last time you change your cap and rotor out? as well as fuerl filter? what fuel pump are you using? what fuel pressure are you runnign? all these come into play too. chek it all out. any of those could cause the engine to run wrong and that weird feelginy our getting is detonation. Be very carefull guy.

Re: Question for Hondata Tuners (Ant-man)
vapor: I mentioned to Honda mechanic that it had 92-95 ECU in it. They can't pull any codes. I sent further description in my e-mail.
flamenco: I checked my fluid levels, & there's plenty of coolant in radiator & reservoir.
Thanks. I appreciate your help guys.
