Default Question about chipping my p28.

Alrighty, I've got all the parts needed, but I'm unsure of one thing. I will desolder the holes that are already pre-filled. Then I'll place the chip in the empty holes. Now, this chip has like, long legs that I believe (appears to me atleast) would stick through the bottom of the Circuit board. Do you solder ontop of the board, near the chip? Or turn it over and solder there? Anyone thats done this before? I'm a DIY sort of person.
Don't tell me to send it out, or post that keebler link. I've read everything there is to read on the subject, just need some real life advice.

Thanks!

don't solder the eeprom directly to the board...use a socket so you can remove/change the chip.

place socket through holes and bend legs to hold it in place. flip board over and use a 30 watt iron and place the tip on the pc board metal conductor pad and leg of socket heating both together. use thin solder and touch the area and it'll flow as needed. remove iron and solder...repeat steps to each leg.

don't forget to add the latch chip (solder that to the board is ok), caps and resistors. same process as above. the trick is to not spend a lot of time on the board w/ the iron. just long enough to get the solder flowing w/ enough to fill and contact.

hope that helps.

You have no idea how much that helps.

Do the legs bend easy? Tool needed? And yes, I got the socket with the little latch so I can easily remove the chip to burn it. I ment the actual holder, but black fram that you put on the board. It sounds easy enough.

Bend the legs in or out? Does it matter?

you don't need to bend them out but it makes the chip stay in place and just fill the holes with solder
