I just picked up a set of arp main studs, first off they recommend 70 ftlb with there moly lube, Along with this they recommend line hone the main caps. Now i just got back my block from earl and i dont wanna send it back to cali and quite frankly i dont trust my local machine shops. What torque do people usally run with these studs and should i be safe with out a line hone?

you have headstuds, not mainstuds.....
These do not go all the way throught he motor and bolt to the main caps of the crank, thats V8 style!!!!!!!

After over twenty years of building engines I have never seen one that the head studs held the main caps on.He is asking about the main studs.ARP recommends that the main line be refinished after installation as the studs can distort the bore differently than the bolts. If I'm going to do an aline hone to a block I use the fasteners that I'm going to use in the final assembly (either bolts or studs).I have built many engine and installed main studs without aline honing the block and never had an issue.Always follow ARP's recommendation as to torque and lube.

Stock torque on mains is 38 ft/lbs for my D, probably not much more for a B. 70 ft/lbs is definitely going to change the position of the mains and put more crush on the bearings. An align hone is probably a good idea.

I have a Golden eagle block girdle and arp main bolts on a b16 and arp:s higher torque warp the **** out of the mains pretty damn much... I would use stock torque if i would do it again.. When you have torqued the mains ones with the higher torque you can´t go back to stock torque.. The mains have alredy been deformed...
I can´t imagine how it would work with arp´s higher torque and not line bore.
It´s a good ide to use arp main bolts with nuts if you plan to take the motor apart many times. You don´t have to mess with the threds in the block.... Otherwise use stock main bolts.

I wouldnt risk it. I would get it alignbored. Any local machine shop should be able to. Or if u dont trust them u could just run stock main bolts?
