Main Studs Necessary?

Main Studs Necessary?
I am building a B18B turbo with hopes to hit 375 - 400 HP. Motor was completely ripped down and sleeved, with all new internals except crank and cams. I will obvisously use head studs in the reassembly, but do you think main studs are necessary? I am not looking to save money, but I would think that changing to studs would require a line hone which I would like to avoid if possible. I am looking for a strong motor but don't want to go over the top.

Re: Main Studs Necessary? (lsturbo*)
No, not necessary for that power. just make sure they are really clean and you get good lube. The key to all of this is consistency. The more consistent the torque number the less warpage there will be and the less wear and tear in the end.

I would do it anyway. The main caps on my B16 were moving a little around 400 WHP with the stock bolts, although the car ran fine for over a year. When I had it redone I got it line honed by RLZ for the ARP main studs and it's still running the last I heard (sold the motor to somebody when I was done with it). Just be careful who you get to do the mains, the machine that's used for a steel block can ruin a Honda block.

Yeah, I am leaning toward stock bolts that way I don't have to line hone. I don't want to introduce any unnecessary problems if I can avoid them. This is similar to my decision of not using a main girdle because my power requirement are simply not that high. Thanks for the input, It's hard to decide what is necessary when this is my first build.
