Quaffe broken axle?
I have broke 8 or 9 axles in the past month and I'm trying to see if it can be anything besides just needing to get some DDS 3 axles. Its always the driver side also. My car makes a slight noise when turning right and it totally goes away when turning left. I really cannot describe the noise but when turning l I can fell it also. I know not much help. I broke a axle once and had to drive home about 65 miles could this have burt the quaffe? If there any test I can do to see if its anything besides the axle causing this problem? Also when I'm coasting down the street the car goes straight but as soon as I give it gas it pulls to the left hard. Any help?

The LSD is causing the noise, because the drivers side axle was not designed to have any significant power applied to it, so the noise is the reslut. I do not know anything more about the specifics, but someone I know has had this problem.

So is the LSD messed up? Did I break it driving on a broken axle? I was driving tonight and its more of a humming sound. The sound doesn't change if I'm in gear or not. So do I just need stronger axles? When I swapped in this new axle the noise got quieter but was still there but it came back just as loud after 2 days.

Sounds definetly like the LSD is messed up. It might be a gear that got stripped(?) and is now sending power to only one wheel.
That kind of problem shouldn't be the axles.

We put it on the lift today and there was no play with the wheel from side to side. Should I go ahead and change them out anyways? Can wheel bearing cause a humming sound or make the car pull? I just hope its not the quaffe.

I love my quaife also but I like it best in my tranny. I don't fell like taking my tranny apart so soon its only been in my tranny for 4000 miles. Can the wheel bearing be bad even if I cannot shake my wheel when my car is lifted up?

Re: Quaffe broken axle? (Bryson)
not sure about ur car pulling to one side or breaking the axle, but as for the sound, could possibly be worn or damaged CV joint. the most obvious thing to check woudl be damage on the boot, but u said u already looked at the car while it was up rite?
anyway, i know when i had a damaged cv on my old car it was only messed up on one side and only made a sound when i made one turn and not another. dont remember if it pulled to one side or another tho.
if your burning out with both tires, i cant see how it could be pulling harder on one side than the other tho...

what car and engine do you have, maybe you dont have the right axles combination. when i did my b16 swap into my crx, i didn't use the right axles on the driver side and my axles were binding. just wondering because your s/n is hybrid901

Re: Quaffe broken axle? (hybrid901)
hybrid901,
My guess is you didn't have the diff installed by an experienced diff man and the gear clearances are off enough to cause premature wear. If you want to determine if this is it or not you could take it to a local trans shop and they'll estimate it for free (hopefully with an opinion of what it is) or you could just change the trans fluid. Changing the trans fluid won't fix the gear clearance problem but it should temporarily quite it down which will let you know it's the clearances in the transaxle. With clearance problems, the exessive friction causes the transaxle fluid/oil to rapidly degrade and it collects all the metal shavings which just adds to the wear problem. I haven't heard your noise but I know the noise. Also, your transaxle should be getting unusually hot after about 10 minutes of regular driving.
Anyway, hope it all works out for you.
