Hey, I am in the market for rods.. I just order some CP pistons.. I was wondering what do you guys think about eagle H beam rods? i heard they are rated for 600-700 hp? I was going to get carrillo Super Pro-A rods which are rated for 700 hp as well.. eagle rods are 300 and carrillos are 750. is it worth the extra money for the carrillos or is it just a waste of money.. My set up will be a 85mm LS vtec.. I really need inputs if you guys have use these rods before? please let me know how they went.. I know eagle has a rep for breaking on you..
my goal pretty much is 500-600 hp
thanks alot

the ealges will hold pwer, and 85mm I think is too big for a FI setup.
If anything happens, u have to get it sleeved AGAIN!!

nope......start off with 81mm or at the most 84mm.

if it's already at 85mm then you have almost no room for error if something goes wrong......headgasket sealing on a 85mm block under boost is not gonna be very good.
im sure boosting on 85mm has been done before but it just leaves little room for tuning error.
plus....you wont notice much of a power diffrence from 83-85mm anyway....

Eagle rods have proven themselves in hundreds upon hundreds of applications not just in Honda's but several other platforms. They are a great product especially for the price.
It's not the hp that you should be worried about it's ring lands and melting pistons or anything that may cause the cylinders walls to be damaged.
The reason it's an issues is because if you score the walls you can't really bore them anymore to continue using them. Once thoes are no good your pretty much SOL.

the sleeves will hold alot of power, but if something ever happens, then ur screwed.
U dont need sleeves for under 4-500HP anyways, so i would think ur going big.
Seeming as u already have, try to trade it to an NA guy or sell it and buy another sleeved block.I see them in the local classifieds all the time.
If u dont want to go threw the hassel, then just run it, and dont let it hold u back from making power, becuase aslong as the HG seals, then ull be fine.

i think that the reputation eagle had gotten was with its 5/16" bolts rather than its new design with 3/8" bolts which is supposed to be capable of 800whp, and ive seen many vouches pushing 600+ which no problems. however, if youre going to do a huge build and want the best of the best, i dont think you should be questioning which rod to get or if this is your daily driver and you cant afford stuff breaking. the manley rods are also really good, but similar pricerange. ive heard of crower rods breaking with 400-500hp, so id say no go on those.
check the sponsors pages and also the classifieds for pauter rods or do a search

thanks alot for the input guys... i guess I am either going to get the pauter or the carrillo super pro A depending on pricing...
well idk about the old eagles but the new eagles are supposed to not be able to break. "theoretically" i watched a video and saw a demo on the speed channel of the strength of an eagle ron. they bent it till it was shapped like an S and it never broke. just bent, so eagle gets my vote.

you will never bendt a eagle rod....or any rod for that matter
rods generally dont bend they break before they bend....you would have to hydro lock the engine to bend it.....

the pro-A's are a lightweight rod meant for all motor apps. you want the pro-H's with carr bolts if you want to make lots of power.
