major boost spike is there any damage done?
i just installed my turbo and i took it out to see if it drove ok. when i took it down the road i started out in 3rd gear and let it build boost it got up to about 5psi at 3k and when i got to 4500-5000 the boost just shot up like a rocket luckily i was watching the guage and as soon as i saw tht i let off (vacuum line blew off the wastegate) i tryed it in second and the same thing happend. i prabably did it 3 times all together. (not the smartest thing i know) and each time it was no longer than a second. the first time i did it sounded like a flame shot out my downpipe or it backfired. (i have an open downpipe so its right under me) well ne way i want to know how i can tell if my engine was damaged. im going to do a compression test and a leakdown test tomorow first thing. it doesnt sound like ne thing is wrong when it idles. and it doesnt look like it smokes altho its hard to see under there.
btw its a d16y8 stock with a t3t04e 57trim .63ar basemap ecu from phearable and 525cc injectors

More than likely, it did something unpleasant. A flame out of the tailpipe on decel usually signifies an overly rich condition, and is bad for the turbo. Running w/o proper tuning has obvious impacts. Spiking with a basemap that's more than likely only able to control ingnition up to 11.2psi - VERY bad. All it takes is a second of detonation to chew up bearings, crack a chuck of piston off, damage ringlands, etc.
A month or two ago I was getting my stuff together to tune this guy's car the next day, then he told me his engine is fubar'd. He ran it with someone else's basemap, overboosted, and cracked all four sleeves (he actually used the word shattered). Built GSR w/built head. Maybe you got lucky, and maybe monkeys will fly outta my butt.

if the motor is stock you probably hurt a piston... some of the pherable base maps i have seen were um.. less than desirable

i did a compression test and the results were 175-180-180-171. i added a tablespoon of oil and redid it (leakdown test?) and i got 205-210-230-210 im not really sure wht this means is it good?

Base maps are not meant for you to rape the living **** out of your motor...Basemaps are for you to crank it up, check for leaks..and baby it to the dyno or tuner.

I actually forgot about the last time I put my turbo kit back. I finished 10minutes late for a wedding rehersal, but didn't get one of the couplers tight enough - to my advantage actually. The hose off the WG also popped off due to a ruined clamp. Long story short, got on the freeway, feed it some throttle...POP! The t3/t04b went over 10psi by some before the coupler in front of the pass. tire blew off & banged the hood.
Moral of the story, save the last cell of the ign/fuel maps to dump fuel and severly retard ignition, making that excessive boost mostly harmless.
