Pushing the 18G

Re: Pushing the 18G (urbansi)
Good luck with making everything happen for under 2k. That is always a really hard thing to do.
Bullseye makes a great cast steel exhaust housing for the 18g that will run w/ a larger 38mm wastegate and a slightly larger a/r to let the turbo make a bit more power. The compressor on the greddy 18g is a bit larger than most give it credit for, and will flow 300whp worth of air without much trouble.

Re: Pushing the 18G (Si Shane)
thats interesting, i have one concern though, i am afraid that once the motor gets pulled that there could be some cylinder scoring, and while i planning on ball honing the walls i am worrying about oil consumption etc. in that case the budget may need to be a little higher.
any other suggestions

Re: Pushing the 18G (urbansi)
I'd go with a little bigger injectors just to be on the safe side.. The 450s are BARELY good to 300whp. Atleast get some 550s. Other than that.. crank up the boost!

#'s in sig with the crap greddy exhaust housing. gettin a bigger housing on that side will free up a lot of power. also I have no porting done at all. that is on pump gas too by the way

yea.. get a bigger exhaust housing.. We switched to a DSM housing and it made a big difference, even increased spool. We are hopping to maybe touch 400 with the 18g. But we will see..

Re: Pushing the 18G (urbansi)
Hey Urban,
I just got done with my rebuild. I would go with a higher CR than 9.0:1. I have the SRP 9.9:1 and they still have great streetability when I am not in boost. SRP is made by JE. I have RC 550's on the 18G setup and they are nowhere close to max duty even at 11 psi. I even use the stock fuel pump and it's not having a problem at all. I am having trouble with something above 6500 rpm's though. Go slow with that rebuild. Follow the helms, and be patient with the piston rings. That is a critical part in the rebuild.

Those are some numbers you guys are getting. I just picked up a used greddy kit got gsr hatch. Anyone have to rebuild their 18g. Are you guys still using the internal wastegate? Keep up the good work.

Re: (93si-hybrid)
I am selling mine over winter just because I changed the direction I want the car to go in(I want over 500whp). snag up a TD06H set of wheels and it will make some pretty good power and port the housings. also get a better manifold. I think you can get the mini-me tubular mani with the greddy flange on it

A dsm 18g yes a greddy 18g it is a bit harder because the exhaust housing/wheel is smaller.

Re: (BoostR41)
i looked into having a tublar manifold and dp combination put together but for $800 i think that money could go else where, my main concern is getting the right internals and making sure the car is tuned first, then push the 18g

A 3 inch downpipe without the cast Greddy elbow is hands down the bext thing you can do for this setup.

very nice but defeats the purpose I got a greddy kit in the first place(retain AC)

it does fall off after vtec crossover to about 14psi on mine. I use AC a lot so I kept the elbow and went 2.5"DP->3" exhaust

Re: (BoostR41)
I added a small spring between the flapper arm and the actuator bracket to help hold the WG closed @ high boost. I have been dragging my feet on buying a Forge Motorsports actuator, but maybe soon. With the extra spring it will hold 18 lbs no problem. I used to set the actuator rod really tight and it could creep up to about 17-18 but with the extra spring it makes base pressure on the WG about 13 lbs then I use my MBC from there, holds boost great. The Vband adaptor is like $100 and the DP is a custom piece.
Also, to the original poster, you asked for opinions. Get some nice RC saturated injectors and Crome. 450s are just barely large enough, especially if they are used/of unknown quality. I would also port the wastegate for sure, maybe even install alarger flapper. But remember, larger flapper = more surface area for exhaust gas pressure to push againsi, so it will require more wastegate stiffness.

Re: (nfn15037)
hmm thanks for the info, i already have 310's in my car, would rc's 550's snap into the same harness the 310's are in. the wastegate for sure will be ported and for the $20 it costs to upgade the flapper to a 34mm flapper ( http://www.slowboyracing.com/more.php?id=108) i may just do that too while i am in there, also have been thinking about doing an adjustable actuator, anyone tried that at all http://www.slowboyracing.com/s...=1462
