Default Pump it (oil system topic)

Has anyone had any experience modifying oil pumps. I've heard that the oil pumps presure releif spring can be shimmed for like 10 to 15 psi worth of oil pressure. Any insight??
Im building an LS/VTEC: sleeved, forged, polished. blueprinted, and boosted. Would the extra oil pressure help out??? Thanks.

shimming the oil pump is a common thing. And yes the extra psi of oil will help, just think of how many componets are using oil. A oil cooler is also another good idea you might want to invest in, as well as a moroso oil pan(which holds more oil). Turbo motors tend to eat oil like nothing.

higher oil pressure may be good for your engine, but it's bad for your turbo. Make sure you have some sort of a restrictor to reduce the pressure that your turbo seals have to experience.

what could be used as a restrictor?

I discourage any modifing of the stock pump. Ive seen two built motors spin rod bearings because they did the same thing.

Its called an orifice and basically it is a metal disc with a hole in it.

Figuring out the hole diameter is hard part.

Porting the inlet and exit inside the pump and filling in the end of the pump (right at the exit) with liquid aluminum, like Devcon, will work wonders. No shims. My oil pressure is 25-85 psi with the modded B20BorZ/B18C/B18C5pump on a B20.

I call it a washer. you can maintain the desired oil flow pretty well just by choosing your line size properly, I only use a -3 line on my T60

Thanks for the replys. Seems we have mixed opinions. I've heard of porting and filling to get more pressure as well. Just wanted to hear other peoples experiences and opinions.

with the gear pumping at the same rate pressure increases and volume decreases, think it s a basic principle - dont think it is different for oil pumps, pls correct me without flames if i am wrong
