Default PTE PT71GTQ problems.

well I have had my turbo for a little bit now (like 5 months I think) and for about the first 2 months it was fine well kinda..at first it would just blow a little oil out of the compressor housing at HIGH boost levals but would make up to 50 psi of boost no problem..well after a month of down time we put the car on the dyno to retune it with new fuel system and weldon pump and now the turbo will not go over 28 psi! I called pte and talked to jim..( the first time) and he said I needed a bigger exhaust housing (had a .68 a/r) and needed a .81 a/r with a -4 an feed line due to the rpms I was running.well I spend the 180 bucks and get a .81 a/r housing and take my -3 an feed line off and put on a -4 an..well same **** differant day..so I call back to pte and talk to don..he say and I quote "OH you have to big of a housing for a 1.8L engine and it doesnt produce enough exhaust and pressure to spool past 30 psi" so at this point Iam super pissed..I explain to him that the other guy I talked to told me I needed a bigger housing and bigger feedline and all he could say was he was sorry I was told wrong..well then he tells me that I should send it in and that they will look at it..but its most likely that it starved of oil or sucked something up so I will most likely have to pay to have it fixed..well my motor has never had a oiling issue and we even went as far as to put a clear feedline on and run the car on the dyno to see if all was fine and it is..what made me the madest was when I told him it shot oil out of the compressor housing sense it was new he said thats normal!as for the sucked something up part..all the blades look brand new and we took the housing off to check it and nothing went thru it..hell I have a top mount manifold..kinda hard to pull **** out of the head light!

well enough of my rant..I got done in for a bunk turbo and will be damned if Iam going to pay them to fix the problems that are not my fault..

so much for a warranty huh..being told you will have to pay just for them to look at it! turbonetics here I come!

I feel your pain man I have heard and seen nothing but bad from precision latly. infact my buddy had a SP71GTQ which is the PT71GTQ and it **** the bed 2 times in a month. he doesn't even go through SP after the first one and SP just told him to deal with precision. so they send him another turbo(I beleive they put a different wheel in it) and he bolted it up. started the car and nothing but smoke. it filled the whole garage with smoke in about 2 minutes. he thought maybe it was from the last bunk turbo leaking oil in the the DP. well 2 minutes later oil is running out of the flex pipe and shuts it off. pull the turbo and the seals are junk on start up. he didn't even put the car in gear. either way he got the run around on warrenty and everything else too so in closing:

to precision they will never get my business

well I just made a call to a buddy and am getting a ball bearing T72 from turbonetics for a killer price so Iam going that way..I hope PTE is happy to lose customers over shoty turbo's..

Turbonetics = 1 year warranty no question asked! I could blow the bitch up on purpose and film it and still get a new one!

Your aren't alone on this. Jasen Penman, Cortney green and buck02 where all running the PT71gtq. They have all been having problems with theres not making proper boost.

Jasen's switched over to the gt42r(71mm inducer), and now is running 9.69@154mph.
