Default problems problems problems....

after finally getting a hondata stage 4b in...
finding out that the 720cc Greddy injectors don't fit... and going with some 440cc injectors at high fuel pressure

i took to the track sunday morning with 1.5 hours of sleep.... by the way, THANKS STEVE AND VICTOR.... thanks a million for your help... i'll call you in a bit steve to give you the low down....

but anyways, here's the senario...

1st run... bouncy launch on drag radials... grip then..... BAAAAAA.... bog bog bog.... and then the car picks up like it's on nitrous.... come back to the pits and regap my plugs...

2nd run.... smaller gap, but still bogs like crazy at vtec.... misshifted into 4th gear and bounced off the rev limiter.... remind you, my motor was built to take 10k rpms.... engine still idling fine afterwards...

3rd run... before the run- i checked the oil level and the oil was low.... prior to racing my oil level was checked out and at normal levels.... filled it back up to between the two holes of the dip stick... proceeded to the burn out box... good launch.... then all of a sudden.... no power... revs are just bouncing around the vtec point like i have a 2 stage rev limiter on or something.... then the car picks up like crazy again... i shut it down way before the finish...
i stop in the return lane to help out a friend that blew his head gasket.... the car is in idle... i'm there for about 10 minutes...

come back to the pits... give up for the day... but what's this? my car is smoking a bit... white smoke coming out the rear.... not thick and not thin... but medium density.... i leave the car on idle for 10 minutes... and then it stops smoking....

after that, we decided to leave for teh day... on the way home though, well actually leaving the pit area... i noticed that my oil pressure would not go past 50 psi of pressure.... my oil pressure sender is tapped right where the stock oil pressure switch is... i tried revving up and seeing if it was the gauge.... but the car wouldn't even go into vtec anymore.... the car is like it has a rev limiter setup right at the vtec engagement point... sputter sputter sputter....

while revving up, i also noticed that the same smoke was back again.... same color and density...

oh well, i ease it back home...

this morning, i start up the car.... the smoke was back.... and still the oil pressure won't go past 50 psi...

once the car warmed up though, the smoke thined out greatly.... at work, there was no smoke at all....

anyone have any ideas?

b18bturbo thinks it's the oil pump.... but my friends think that if it was the oil pump, the car would have no oil pressure at all....

also, as for the smoke.... they all think my head gasket is toasted.... agree? disagree?

man, bad weekend.... no sleep, car running like crap, car dying... sheesh...

although, it was a pleasure to finally meet you steve....

thanks all

well

could be a million things with your car, I will tll you one thing I know for sure, the oil pump gear will shatter when you hit higher revs like you said you motor is good to 10K. buy the aftermarket oil pump gear. Even the R type gear will break.

Hope you do not have any chocolate milkshake in your coolant????

well, if anything.... i think somethine was going funcky with my oil pressure all day... i believe that's why the car couldn't go into vtec smoothly...

i test drove the car the night before the race, and it was freakin fast...

but of course, all the problems came on race day...

i'm thinking of going with a GSR oil pump with the pro drive oil pump gear as B18Bturbo recommended to me... right viren?

Do you have an LS motor? if so get the 94 GSR oil pump and '98 Type R water pump and 94 GSR timing belt + the prodrive gear.

Sorry to hear about all the problems you had.. Just gotta question for you though.. What didn't fit with the greddy injectors.. Did it not fit into the rail? Was it too big or too small? Just curious, because I was looking into getting a set myself. Thanks.

just a quick question, what oil are you running. cause if the oil is to thin it wont engadge the vtec solinoid......but that wont explain your run running, other than if your using a bigger map senser but havent told the hondata to use the gm version.

TurboT,

unfortuneatly I dont. I checked with a good acura mechanic about the oil gauge. He claimed that the oil pump has a spring that regulate pressure, and that if it goes beyond a certain psi, it would only allow a max of 50psi. Has anyone else ever heard of this?

yeah, i was checking out my helms manual...

and there is a bypass valve in the oil pump... basically if the spring isn't strong enough, it will just bypass the oil into the pan....

i guess time for a new oil pump!

the spring is behind the allen plug on the back of the pump.
