problems with big injectors (1000ccm) - power loss
Hallo,
last weekend we had a car on the dyno for tuning and had some problems i want to ask
you if you have any idea of what can cause such a phenomen:
the car runs like chewing gum... bad throttle response and incredible less power
on 7psi.
we had another car on which i run the same ignition basemap and the same boost and same afr
and this car makes good power and good throttle response... the engine was on both cars
a B16A1.
the turbo was different and i don't know which exactly it was because i don't build the car and
the owner don't know. but the size seems to be nearly identical but the trim is onknown.
the "bad car" also had crower turbo cams and bigger valves. SRP pistons CR=~8:1, eagle rods.
i guess its the turbo that holds the power down but i want to have some more oppinions...
the car also have 1000ccm injectors and i had some problems to stabalize the afr with hondata...
everytime i change a littlebit i overfuel or overlean the mixture because of the huge effect of the
1000ccm's ... but i see a lot of cars running 1000ccm's... is there any secret of a stable afr with
such big injectors?
Thanks
Malte.

MRX: Read bolded word from original post.
I would also like to know if there are any "tricks" to idling 1000's. I know you can just raise the idle speed, but is there anything else?

Re: problems with big injectors (Dunc)
with the car this weekend i don't have to rise the idle to get it stable...
the only problem was the throttle tip in enrichment... when you open the throttle rapidly it gets to 9:1 AFR shortly and then to the normal value... the problem with the big injectors is more to get the overall mixture stable instead of the idle...

The major issue I had with 1000cc injectors while tuning Craig Olvey's built Z6 was gear correction, or lack thereof. It's easy to address in Crome, and there isn't an option for it in Hondata, at least as of a month or two ago when I last updated my ROM Editor. You can hexedit the files - same location as USDM P72 GSR.
As for tip in, there is an individual correction factor for tip in enrichment in the ROM emulator. Keep decreasing this until you have a less dramatic AFR drop. Running a 9:1 AFR at tip in will certainly kill throttle response.
