Default Problem with Aeromotive FPR

I have the Aeromotive external fuel pump, fuel filter and Fuel pressure regulator with upgraded lines. I have had this setup working fine for over a year and now i'm having a problem. My car was acting weird and kinda sluggish and seemed to be running rich.

So i started the car and checked the fuel pressure gauge i have on my rail. It is supposed to be at 50psi at idle, i checked and it was at 65psi. No problem, i'll just turn it down. This happened once or twice before and i was able to turn it back down to 50. So i loosen the nut and with a allen key turn it counter clockwise, the fuel pressure dosn't go down! I turn it clockwise and it raises it, but it won't turn down.

WTF how can i fix this problem, i really don't want to buy a new one. What went wrong with the regulator, can i just buy a part and replace it, HELP


CLIFF NOTES for the lazy - Aeromotive regulator won't decrese my fuel pressure back to where its supposed to be

Would Aeromotive warrenty their products? Anyone have any thoughts on this, help please i am wasteing a shitload of gas.

have you tried a differant guage?

maybe a "spring or something" went bad in the FPR, or its clogged somehow...vacum port clogged maybe??

you can take apart the regulator and make sure theres nothing clogged up in there

You can open it up to check the spring inside and the diaphragm. It's not that hard because I had opened it before.

Well i guess thats what i'll have to do, i hate working on fuel system parts. How should i go about making sure gas isnt gonna spray everywhere?

The gauge is good, i can tell it's way rich - runs like ****, backfires, and black smoke out the exhaust.

check the gauge 1st, i have had probs with the gauges already , they wont read accurately. like the needle will only go to a certain point on a low level. like will read 50 and up , but not below, kinda hard to explain .
but if that dont do it . check the diapram in the FPR.

take it off the car
this happened to me as well, except I was up at around 80 psi....I ditched the project before I could really do anything about it, but I still ahve the FPR...itd be nice if you could remedy this, I need it for my up and coming rwd project

Great advice, I just got an email from Aeromotive saying the exact same thing. To bad it's to dark to work on my car now. The size of the line is not the problem, I already had this setup working perfect for quite awhile.

Its been raining mostly all day but i did get a chance to take off the FPR. It's a very simple and well made piece, very easy to remove and take apart. Everything seemed to be in perfect condition, no visiable signs of wear at all.

I'm gonna check out my return line in the morning but how should i go about doing it, just a visual inspection????

what aeromotive FPR you using??????????

On the Honda Rail mount units, the vacuum port fitting hits against the spring, locking it in place!

Aeromotive has NEVER returned my calls either!!!!!!!

Mine is not on the fuel rail, i have it agenst the firewall. Aeromotive was very quick to reply to an email i sent to the tech@aeromotiveinc.com. This morning i put the FPR back and check my return lines for kinks but i could not find anything. The fuel pressure still won't go less than 60 psi. WTF

take it apart and i bet you the spring inside broke. Chris greens jetta had that happen with the same regulator. spring was in 2 pieces. you can buy just the spring i beleive.

I already took it apart everything was in perfect shape.

You might have a blockage in your return line somewhere.. ....I know this isnt safe but put the return part of the fpr into a coke bottle and pressurize the fuel system.. See if you can adjust the pressure then.. I had a blocked return line on mine and this test showed me just that..
