Probe (aka Coast High Performance) is who built my 351 shortblock in my Mustang. Top notch work on the domestics, they are an upcoming piston/rod company at RESONABLE prices. Can't vouch for them on the import side yet though.... I've been thinking about it for my F22A1... handing Crower 650 of my hard earned dollars to them offends me.
edit: they bought out most of what WAS TRW's piston division last year if you want credentials.

just because alot of people have drag gen 3 turbo kits doesn't mean it's the best
out there.
just because alotta people have apex exhausts doesn't mean it's the best out there.
if they are lighter...and stronger...who cares if not alot of people know about
them?
before tony shagday and his skunkworks *now skunk2* integra ran 12's and 11's
all motor...
who would have bought their products? probably no one...doesn't make them any
more or less of a company/manufacturer..just made a name for themselves.
i remember back in the day...people were like "wtf is a skunkworks...never heard."
alotta people on this board know about SMSP or hy-tech...
but alotta people on the streets would be like WTF? why not buy an apex exhaust..
SMSP on this board can tell you probably everything you'd want to know about
exhausts...although he is not mainstream/doesn't even have a website (yet)
doesn't make his product any less than any others...
in fact it has been proven by many to work alot better than others...
on the dyno by importbuilders too...so if IB is telling u probe rods are lighter and
stronger...than hey, what the heck..why not. if you are still nervous about the
reputation of probe rods...IB seems to have a great reputation as engine builders..
so maybe you should trust him...but hey what do i know...
out there.

Re: PROBE rods????? (EVOL)
EVOL. Word !
A freind who spoke to the Import Builder guys told me this just yesterday about the Probe rods.
He was told, by IB, that they gained 15 dyno hp by switching out Eagle/Wiseco combo and installing a Probe/Ross setup. Same compression, same exact motor. This was N/A from what I understand.
I have a hard time believing this. I just think that Probe rods are new to the import race motor scene and can be purchased for dirt cheap by retail shops/performance shops. Then again, Crowers are probably overpriced. Its called business....supply and demand.

Re: PROBE rods????? (93LSivic)
Yeah and I really don't understand the Crower craze here either. Neither myself or anybody I knew ever considered Crower to be the **** with domestics, so I don't see how they could just jump into the import engines and be so badass that they can charge twice as much for half as many rods

Re: PROBE rods????? (earl)
For 259 i'm willing to give it a try on my Accord anyway.
agreed on crower NOT being the **** on domestics. the reason i bought my probe shortblock was due to a fractured cap on a crower rod on my 331 stroker. which is why it chapped my *** to even consider paying them 650, but on the non-vtec accords choice is limited

Where can you get them for $259?

Re: PROBE rods????? (GimpyAccord)
Did any one notice that the Probes come with ARP bolts 8740 vs Eagles ARP 2000 bolts. The ARP 2000 the stronger fastener material. I wonder how much more it is with ARP 2000 or ARP L19.
Nice price though. I think I'll get me a set.

Re: PROBE rods????? (Rocket)
I've heard of Probe on the domestic side. They specialize in cranks, pistons, rods, etc.... What about Cunningham Rods. They are a little cheaper than Crower and I hear that is what everyone such as Papadakis, Kubo, Bergenholtz use! Alot of domestics use Cunningham as well. I myself have Eagle rods. Forthe price I could'nt pass it up!

Re: PROBE rods????? (turbo Si)
Cunningham makes good stuff. And SIR, I agree with you. They look almost like a forged version of a stock rod, rather than a beefy beam type like the Eagles and other brands.

Re: PROBE rods????? (mplex2000)
Guess I was right about the price gouging. IB sells them for $385 shipped---these may be with the better hardware, but still thats probaby an extra $40 retail.
http://importbuilders.com/block_parts.htm
Then the link above has them for a good amount cheaper.

Re: PROBE rods????? (93LSivic)
I am curious to how the Probe rods turn out. It is true they are a very common and respected name in the domestic market. I might try and sell a set really soon to see what they look like. Any word on the Probe Pistons, are they out yet?

Re: PROBE rods????? (DamonBoost)
Manley is now selling their made in the USA rods. Great quality but almost as expensive as Crowers. American made rods are always going to be more expensive than those from the orient. QC much better on American made so it's not just an over pricing/profit problem, they cost more to make. Compare the rod bold sizes of Eagle and Crower. Worth the extra protection, IMO.
