Default Precision SC34 .48 or .63? Maybe even a completely different model?

Hey All,

I have spent the last few days searching the forums, both recent posts and the archives. I have also all over the 'net looking at dyno graphs and info. I am looking to purchase a new turbo to replace my blown lil T3 from the SVO (.48 hot/.60 cold/60 trim). I really liked the way this turbo spooled so fast, but I did not like the way it ran outta breath on the top end. I dont drag race or street race so I am not looking for some SC61 using 500+ hp monster. The only thing I want is a very streetable car with a turbo that will spool nice and fast, but still have the ability to grow with me if I build the bottom end. A friend of mine recently purchased a Mitsu EVO, and I would like to eventually get my car to be able to hang with him, even if he does some mods.

Having said that, I think I have narrowed my choice down to the SC34 but I am still open to suggestions. The one thing I am not sure of is choosing the .48 or the .63 housing. I know with my current turbo, I wished I woulda kept the .63 hot side instead of selling it and going with the .48 With this bigger SC34, I dont know if I would have the same regret since it flows more CFM.

Here is my current setup:

Engine/Transmission
- B16A3 Engine
- GSR Transmission
- ACT 6 Puck Clutch
- Xtreme Pressure Plate
- 11lb Lightened OEM Flywheel
- 2.5" Aluminum Radiator

Turbo
- RevHard Cast Mani
- Spoolin Performance 3" Downpipe
- Thermal 2.2" Exhaust (soon to be Kteller 3" & magnaflow muffler)
- T3 63/48/60 Trim Turbo
- 29x8x2.75 Custom IC
- Tial 35mm WG (10.2 PSI Spring)
- 2.25" Charge Piping
- TurboXS RFL BOV
- RC 550cc Injectors
- Walbro 255lph HP Fuel Pump
- Crome UNTuned Chiped P30 w/Datalogging

What do you guys think I should go with? The SC34 with teh .48, or will I want the .63... or maybe even a completely different turbo?

well. when did you start to build boost(1psi) and reach full bosot by(what psi) on your b16? I have a SC34 with .63 on my stock b16 and can tell you if the upgrade is too much lag for you..

well on my SC34 with .63, 1psi at 3,500RPM, little bit earlier in 5th gear. and 10psi at 5000rpm. some ppl ahve reache full bosot in the mid 4000's tho. Miesn might be higher due to some leaks.. whcih I seem to always find little ones everywhere... Hope that gives you insight.

current setup:
2000 Civic Si
B16a2
GE Sleeves
Eagel rods
Arias pistons (9.5.1 compression)
Type R head (stock intake/exhaust valves) RM springs/retainers
RevHard Intake manfold
JG 65mm throttle body
Full-Race manifold
Full-Race t3/t67 (stage 3 exhaust wheel .62 a/r)
PWR Intercooler 24x8x3
Blitz BOV (hard spring)
Tial 44mm wastegate
3" downpipe, 3" test pipe
Thermal exhaust
B16 tranny Quaife LSD
ACT Extreme pressure plate
ACT 6 puck
ACT lightened flywheel
Hondata S100B
Rodchestor 1000cc injectors
Walbro 255 lph (high pressure)
AEM fuel rail
Fast-turbo complete fuel line kit
Aeromotive FPR
and some other stuff..., etc.

I just got my head back from portflow, and picked up some type r cams so I should be pretty close to 500hp after I tune it again. I might go ahead and go bigger on the turbo at the sametime. Still deciding between a gt35r t04s & t3/t67 ptrim wheel.

Good luck with your setup!

Currently I run the SC34:

Compressor:
.60 A/R
57 Trim

Turbine:
.63AR
Stage 2

But after looknig around. I might stick with an SC34 but go witht he larger one with the stage 3 for even more top end at the expense of another few 100 rpm spool time....
