Power Cutting In & Out HEEEELP!
My car is just pissing me off lately. I have no idea what's going on with it, maybe a bad tank of gas or something. I think my friends bad luck as everytime he gets in my car it starts acting up.
So here we go . . . the power cuts in and out
example: if i'm drving with say 30% throttle on the vafc my power will just cut out, and then kick back in, or if I am idling and hold the throttle sometimes the power will just cut and my rpms will drop to like ohh 600-ish or whatever and then when the power kicks back on my rpms jump up to where they should be depnding on how much gas I give it.
What all could be the cause of this problem? Timing off? Running to Rich or Lean? I wanted to run my car down the track tonight, but on my way to the track it started acting up so I took my car home and just took my aunts car to the track to spectate
Any and all help is appreciated . . . . I did pull the plugs and they are black (rich) and the center is red (poor additives in the fuel) and that is 92 octane, so maybe it is a bad tank of gas?
Running the DSM 450's idle (1000rpms) is set to I believe 35% on the vafc.
I am also still experiencing my supposedly over heating issue or whatever. We tested the temp sending unit (was bad) tested the harness (checked out good) so I replaced the sending unit, and thermostat, and replaced the coolan and bled the system . . . all was totally fine when I drove with my buddy dave and boosted and all, now on my way to pick up my buddy ryan the needle started to fly off the handle again spiking and dropping and just acting retarded.
Does anyone know what all this could be?

I mean power as in like power not electrical like hp . . . maybe the fuel is cutting off or I have no idea it's just like if I hold 30% throttle at idle the rpms will go up to whatever it is 4,000 and then with my foot steady on the gas it will just drop down to like 700, and then kick back up not irratic idle now.

the hack doesn;t last for ever. jsut another rason to stop beign cheap and to go buy a ral standalone liek a hondata or something else. Sorry not trying to be an ***, but when I have seen 10 out of 10 cars loose motors in a 2 yr peroid due to glitches with that so cakked hack, itend to not like it at all....

yeah I hear that . . . . I have never had a problem with the hack. If I was running crazy amounts of boost then yeah, but right now money is really tight, so I can't really drop $500 on hondata or anything like that.
Basically after reading someone else's post the best way to describe my car is it bucks like a bronco. I just find it weird that all of a sudden it started doing that out of no where . . . . could it be fuel or spark related, or does it sound like a wiring issue? I just want my car back, i'm not asking to make 250whp

hmm . . . that could be, never had a issue with timing but there is a first time for everything :-p
Timing belt is new but I will check that and the skunk2 cam gear. As for my EGT's I am not sure because I don't have my EGT gauge hooked up. What's the best way to get the probe for the EGT gauge on a cast iron Drag Manifold . . . can you weld a bung on there or not really?

Re: (Vtec92Civic)
ttt . . . . still doing it . . . the car right now as we speak just dies after I crank it over and it starts up. Pulled my plugs and they are blacker then black which means DI am running overly rich.
Got DSM 450's and the resistor box . . . had it set at -32 for idle I took it back to -38 and it is still dying right after it starts . . . . I am going to try and clean the spark plugs tos ee if that will help.
Any suggestions guys?

Re: (Vtec92Civic)
Take it down to 1320 and have them ACTUALLY tune it if you're running that rich... I still need to go get my car tuned too, we could make a day of it...
Maybe it's just getting too much fuel to burn properly?

but you can drop 4-5 times that building another engine when this one pops from not being tuned properly?

Re: (Vtec92Civic)
Well you running to rich for sure. The cor should be set closer to -40 all the way accross. I made the same mistake and the air fuel dropped way below 12:1 when set a -35 across. Took it to the dyno to find out. I suggest you do the same thing.
As for the cutting of power, It could be as simple as the ignition is getting flooded out by the amount of fuel being forced into the cylinders. So one would be the amount of fuel. And two would be a faulty spark plug so it runs like you're on 3 cylinders sometimes. And the last thing that it could be is a weak ignitor. Good luck.

Re: (MidoriHB)
one problem down . . . . tested for spark and saw that cylinder 2 & 4 wires were not giving off any spark . . . replaced the plug wires and everything is great now . . . just need to figure out if my car is really over heating or not
either my headgasket is toast or my gauge cluster needle is going nuts for no reason.
