Power loss while driving

Power loss while driving
Ok so I thought I would ask u guys if u might know what my problem is. I have a 98 hatch with an h22a1, with bolt ons.
Here's the issue:
I just had the engine installed and tuned a lil over a month ago and while I was driving to my school in another state the car would l lose power. I would be doing somewhere in the range of 3.5k-4k rpms and then all of a sudden I would lose my gas pedal, rpms would slowly decrease. I would step on the gas or feather the gas and it would re engage. This happened a handful of times on the trip up. Now a month goes by, I hardly drove my car and now I'm returning home. For my 15hr trip home this issue became non stop. Made for a very frustrating trip home. In every gear and no matter where I am in the rpm range the car will lose all power (the car does not shut off). I could be at a light, take off and then the car will jerk hard, I'll feather the gas, or shift into second and still have no gas pedal. Then it will all of a sudden pick back up.
Any thoughts? I'm thinking it might be come thing ignition related or air related ie... Maybe my dizzy, tps (really just kinda lost. Lol)
Thanks for the help

Re: Power loss while driving
That is a tough one as it goes away while still driving. I am thinking you are having either an intermittent fuel issue, or an ignition issue.
Sometimes a wiring issue can come up as wiring either heats up, or vibrates and losses contact intermittently.
If this happens while at steady throttle position, and then changes when you get on the gas, I would check the throttle position sensor with a sweeping multimeter, and it should be steady through the range. If you have a dead spot, replace it and calibrate the new one.

Re: Power loss while driving
So what you're saying is you're driving steady just fine, then the power cuts out, you step on the gas, nothing happens for a few moments and then the car suddenly accelerates?
Closest I've ever had to this was my Dodge Ram accelerating up to highway speed just fine then out of nowhere I had no power no matter how much gas I gave her. Turns out the catalytic converter was plugged.

Re: Power loss while driving
Yes that is correct, the gas pedal will be steady and then all of a sudden the car will start to decelerate, I'll mash the gas or feather it and it will then all sudden pick up. Happen in every gear, no matter what rpm. Now the weird thing i that I forgot to mention is that on my trip home (15hrs) my gas mileage still ranged about 260-270 miles to the tank

Re: Power loss while driving
heres a rundown of what the car has, if you see any issues with parts that you might think is the issue, please let me know:
H22A1 (Internally completely stock)
M2A4 Light Fly w/ comp stg 4
Rosko Euro r mani w/ all the fixins (port matched)
AEM FPR and RDX Injectors
BDL 68MM TB
AEM Hybrid CAI (h22 to ek chassis)
Mugen header
new Alt, starter, and dizzy
3"header back pipe to 2012 SI muffler
mishi 1/2 rad and fan

Re: Power loss while driving
That AEM Fuel Pressure Regulator is the only thing that comes to mind looking at those parts. Is it possible it may be losing pressure at a certain RPM range? Honestly, "adjustable" devices/electronics/whatever are out of my league but maybe this thread can give you some help?

Can't offer much beyond that. I'm still learning the factory systems, let alone aftermarket stuff.

No tears. Only dreams, now.
Re: Power loss while driving
Well, it sounds like good old 3k hesitation but on a different scale.
We know it's not EGR related, since you have a new intake mani, and you don't have a cat, so that's out.
I see that you have a new alternator and some other items, unless they're OEM, I'd be suspicious of the new electrical components, specifically your grounds. Also, check your timing... can't hurt.
Anyway, back to electrical, check your connections, grounding points, etc. It sounds like they could be the issue here.
