Default possible bad wastegate?

running 10 psi spring in my tial. boost fluctuates and only reaches 7.6 psi. k20 motor. checked for leaks with compressor blowing into capped off turbo and couldnt find any bubbles around the couplers. Should it reach 10psi exactly on the dyno? how exact are these wastegate springs? vaccuum lines are tapped off fpr source for boost guage and bov. cant figure out why boost fluctuates constantly at WOT and wont reach 10psi

where are you sourcing your pressure for the wastegate? do you have a boost controller? if so, route the boost signal directly to the bottom port on the gate, of you still dont get or hold desired boost start with the controller.

remember, a source from the compressor, nets a 1-2 psi drop from all the piping.

pressures coming from the nipple on the compressor housing to the bottom of the wastegate. no boost controller being used. just straight off the wastegate spring. Thanks man. i appreciate the help. Looking for 10psi but coming up with only 7 worried me. Kept checking and checking for leaks but didnt come up with any. so if im looking for 10 psi and i get a 1-2 psi drop cuz of the piping. should i just go get a 12 or 14 psi spring to put me where i want? on the dyno graph the boost does not stay constant. it fluctuates up and down.

try putting the source for the wastegate at the intake manfold. you wont see any pressure drop from the intercooler and will actually run what the wastegate spring is. your always going to get lower boost from a wastegate when you source it to the compressor nipple.

Thanks guys. i appreciate the help. So should i cap off the compressor nipple or just leave it wide open? will it affect any readings or anything leaving it open?

if you run it off of the mani, you need to cap it. it will cause a pressure drop if you dont.

i'd cap it for testing then plug it after that. i cant count how many cars have come in for dyno time and the cap they put on the compressor was damaged or missing. most are 1/8th NPT
