i imagine it works just the same as porting a head or manifold or throttle body to let in or out air faster or at a higher velocity or whatever

Done it lots of times.

Talked to JGS tools back in the day and porting the cold side housings did increase Volumes alot. I did mine on my super 60 for the MX6 and i think it flowed like 60cfm more id have to look it up.

How far into the outlet do you port? Just the straight part?

What about my SC61. It only haves a 2" outlet. Would it not be importent to me to port it ?

I could be wrong but sometimes when referring to porting they are also talking about elarging the inside where the wheels sit so they can put larger stage wheels in the turbo.

I know they can do this on a mistu turbo so it will look like a 16G or something from the outside, but it actually has the wheels and flow of a 18G, hell, I don't know the names of the turbos exactly but I know it is done.

Ported compressor cover, also sometimes known as ported shroud, is referring to an anti-surge style housing.

Porting the compressor outlet like the pics above is great, but that isn't really a restriction point. Just like how guys are trying to port their turbine housing, it does increase flow, but it is much smarter and more effective to just go with a larger a/r housing.

Same deal with compressor covers... Unless your housing is a restriction point which I highly doubt (compressor covers are always signifcantly oversized because large compressor covers does not hinder compressor effiiciency), it's a waste of time to port it.

It is only worthwhile to port the outlet if the turbo was fitted with a much larger compressor wheel but the housing was not upgraded, or if the turbo is a factory unit (like a WRX turbo, or something OEM), then doing so could also improve performance. If you were to port the housing for something like an SC61, or GT30R, etc... those housings are way over the flow rating of the compressor and there is no point to port the outlet.
