Polishing ic pipes..... WHAT A PAIN IN THE ***....
Jesus well I started this project from hell around 1pm today after I made a quick stop at kmart . I picked up some simple green to clean the engine some chrome/polish finish by turtle wax and some assorted sand papper (60,120,150,220 grit) Took all my ic pipes off. Then cleaned one U pipe with some simple green then started with the 60 grit papper. In total it took me 4 hours to sand/polish 2 pipes. Actually thinking about it. It looks like a brushed aluminium finish. I like the results for far. Much better then the moron who spray painted them silver . Tommorow I hope to finish up.

Get buffing compound and use a buffing wheel. Either a hand held wheel with the pipe gently clamped in a padded vice or a buffing wheel on a bench grinder. Use lots of buffing compound and then use polishing compound. To keep it that way, maybe clear coat it??? The other stuff works great! You can get a pretty good mirror going with just no. 7 buffing compound very fast, and if your **** retentive then use the polishing compound. You could probably do a 2ft section of 2.5" pipe in 30 min.

Yeah since the pipes are steel if you do not clear coat it will rust...might rust anyway. The clearcoat may also turn yellow from the heat...powdercoating is probably the best option. (without trying to polish)

I polished my turbo manifold starting with 240, then 350, 400, 1000, and finished with 1500. Then I polished using a buffing wheel with the white rouge.
Unless you have aluminum piping, it will probably look good for the first 2 weeks. After that you will probably just want to paint them.

How much does powdercoating, ceramic coating, or just painting them usually cost? Under... say.. 10$??
Yeah yeah, I know, probably not that cheap.. let me know.

Hmm, I used the hybrid forum favorite--good ol' flat black for all but one piece of my charge piping. So far its working great. Oh yeah, lets see maybe a total of about $4.50 for one can of paint?

What is the advantage of painting or powerdercoating or ceramic coating youru turbo manifold anyway? IS there a good reason?

Hey Dustin...I thought you had a GSR. Looks like your manifold, but not your motor. Hehe.
