Default please help!!!need turbo info

Hey guys
A friend of mine wants to buy a holset he351vgt for his da but we are unsure of a few things. We are tryin to find out if the turbo will work without the variable vein electronics. I had read somewhere that they sale some kind of stand alone controller for the electronics on the turbo but i cant find it anywhere. Also i read that you dont need the vgt if you are running an external wastegate. Someone please help us out. He can get a killer deal on this turbo , but dont wanna buy it if its not going to work.

dont waste your time on it dude.....alot more work than needed to get it to work right. that turbo came off a diesel engine and works for that diesel engine for a reason out the factory. if you want a good turbo off a diesel engine, try a holset hx35..

but if you want to try it as a project go for it, just my opinion, its not worth it...good luck

If it is such a good deal, buy it and resell it for a profit. More money towards the turbo he should be buying.

A lot of people use these turbos, I personally have one as well

Holset does variable geometry different (it really should be called VNT as it varies housing size, 2-25cm to be exact)
You can lock the housing in place but then you defeat the purpose of the variable geometry in the first place.
The stock Dodge ecu controls the geometry through the can bus system, a few people have done stand alone controllers that determine housing size based off of throttle and map voltage and some just use an internal wastegate assembly with a boost controller.

If he wants the same turbo without the vgt/ vnt stuff just buy an he351cw
Same wheels with a fixed area housing.
