Default Planning to yank out b16 for??? B18 or B20?

quick questions for you boost guru!! I currently have a jdm b16a with a Greddy 18g turbokit at 12psi. car feels pretty ok but I would like to swap it out for either a b18b1 or a b20crv engine.. Im not familiar with the B20s but I am assuming its a better bigger engine than a B18b.. are there any cons on choosing a b20 over a b18? I will be getting the jdm version of whichever one I decide to end up with,, I know I know, jdm engines are higher compression and not the best to boost on but I really had no prob boosting jdm engines for the past 2 years,, i had a b18c boosted with my greddy turbo and it did a 12.7@ 116mph in my eg coupe. I really want to get a b18c again but the $5-600 for a b20 seems so attractive over the $1500 for a gsr...

Is there anything wrong with your b16? You will make less power at your current psi if you switch to either the b20 or the b18b (both nonvtec).

nothing wrong with my B16,, hmm,, less power but way more torque,, the B16 seriously dont have any displacement, the way I see it,, the B20 dont have vtec but it has alot more displacement and my turbo will run with alot more better with the bigger displacement. I had a ls swap in my old civic 4dr and it felt alot more fun than my b16 swap in my newer 4dr.

I had a ls/vtec in my del sol with a greddy 15g turbo and it was alright, but I dont want to spend $175-200 for a ls/vtec conversion kit and again, I am very liking the $500 for a B20 engine complete longblock. also, keep in mind i am basically running all stock internals,, havent heard the greatest thing about a ls/vtec swap let alone boost on top of a ls/vtec.

mustve been just your lsvtec and turbo setup. mine with my turbo kit makes me one of the fastest on the street with just 8psi of course tuned. b20 get too much tq

i think a lsv or b20v would be nice. b16 heads just flow so much better than ls

b16 are slow. they have no torque, i'd go sohc boost before i go b16 boost. sohc are more plentiful and much cheaper. if b-series, i'd go ls before b20. ls remains with the 81mm cylinder bore so you can swap in pistons/rods from a number of different b-series engines. B20 has the 84mm bore but it's still the same block, crank, and rods as the b18b1. so it's basically a bigger LS but since the pistons are larger, the sleeves will be thinner. For boost, i'd prefer the LS. Both have similar displacements yet the LS has a higher peak hp and better cams. The b20z and b18b1 have the same cams but the b20's for 500 are b20b's and they have crappier cam shafts. Good luck. I've had two built ls/v turbos that ran for 4 year plus but now i'm going LS/T. cheaper and can get me the same power. Hope this helps

btw, just yanked a b16 and installed a b20 into my buddy's car last week. I'll see if he can chime in. all i can say on his behalf tho is that it's a night and day difference.

Maybe because you're on a small island in the middle of the ocean

OP, lsvtec or b20vtec would be the way to go (since you already have the b16).

yea, my buddy had a b16 in his car til this week as well. let's just say he's much more pleased with the b20 than the b16. I prefer ls over b20 because of the cylinder wall but i'd def go with b20 or b18b before i go with a b16. b16 is torqueless and feels like a d16z6 until vtec. vtec shouldn't be a lifeline lol. the b16 head flows awesome, just depends on ur power goals. for sub 400whp i'd stay with b18b or b20. for more, then ls/v or gsr. these are just my personal opinions.

So Happy!!! Just found a 99 B18b1 on craigslist today!!! I picked it up at a shop that was planning to put it in a civic and realized the automatic B18b1 does not drop into an automatic eg... they did new waterpump, tbelt, drivebelts, and tensioner too... stole it for $400...

Im trying to aim for 300-350whp, its gonna be pretty hard with the 18g turbo that comes with the Greddy turbokit.. wonder if the Ls engine gonna be able to take 15psi from that turbokit..
