I agree, JE is good..9.2:1 is good CR, but I am just kinda hesitance...with it being used and all...

if your running such low compression, im assuming your going for some decent boost- overboring open deck hondas and lots of boost can't play nice all the time...get the Arias, and invest in a block guard. #1

fullybuilt...does that include a blockguard, pinned block, welded deck, or something of the like for cylinder support? still,#2?...just make sure they weigh the same, are not scuffed horribly, the ring lands are perfect, wrist pins bosses are perfect and x-ray them (there goes your little savings on the used set)...or, just get the new arias that are perfect from the box.

Go with the arias. If you're spending that much money you minus well get brand new pistons...why waste the money on used ones.

Hey Stan, if it were me...I would use the weisco pistons. The bore size is not important like all these people are trying to say. You are turbo, you can make up for it on boost. If you hurt the pistons, it always leaves you more room to bore it out. I can also name pro races in the nines that have stock bore. The reason im not saying Arias is because I have seen to many people hurt the pistons useing them. They seem to melt way to easy. If you want to keep it cheap, look into some je srp pistons. I have talked with a tech guy over there and he claims the only reason they are cheaper is cause they dont ever custom make them and they are off the shelf. How did that block in Texas look?........Mike

I say #2 because of the obvious. JE's have a good rep... man of us have them in our cars without problems and we KNOW they are good (proven). The SRPs however, are not originally JEs, unless JE physically took over production (anyone know if they did ?) I don't understand how someone can say the SRPs are the same as the JEs ! JE makes production (off the shelf) pistons and they don't cost near what the SRP does. I understand the brand name issue, but SRPs have 'JE' written on the box too.

#2... a slightly higher CR for better low end and quicker spool, plus the .2 over for even more displacement ? Hell yeah ! What's the largest you can bore teh sleeved block ?

Whichever you pick let me know. I might scoop a set of the "other" up. I am in the market for pistons right now.
Anyone have any for sale??

I guess people say JE and SRPs are the same because they're the same company..
I talked to the JE/SRP rep at the Long Beach IAS a couple months ago and here's what he told me:
SRP pistons are higher silicon content, and are good up to about 100hp per cylinder
JE pistons are lower silicon content (and therefore stronger) and can support more power (I don't remember the number offhand).

Flamenco-
I'd say get the used JE pistons, mainly because of the 9.2:1 thing; if they're local you should definitely inspect 'em first though since they're used...

OT: I noticed in your sig you have pistons for sale for an Rx7, RX7's are rotary and use rotors not pistons, correct? so how can they be for an Rx7? Im not trying to start anything, just clear things up, thanks!

or there is another option. I have A brand new set of JE PRO series 9.3- 1 compression with 20 over (81.5 mm ) (THESE ARE NOT SPRS, These are PRO Je's). Comes with NEW PINS, RINGS, and ofcouse the pistons. All brand new in the box, still in the orignal wrapping (3 pistons never seen day light yet , 1 was pulled out to check it out). I need different pistons. 450.

The pistons your looking at now you said are used and you want a new set of piston rings. For the price of pistons rings my pistons are basically the same price. But mine are all brand new. rayk83@yahoo.com

Mike :

heheh, the block, open deck, all connected in a figure of eight...looks exactly like stock...no wonder...

93LSCivic: will do

Kamira, you got IM...

I dunno, I am kinda leaning towards kamira's offer..or the wiseco
I am not pushing more than 400 WHP, so SRP is still in consideration...

ok guys...if you think that a higher compresion makes a turbo spool faster, you are wrong. I will not get into great detail why because it is something you can research your self. A turbo does not spool on compression. There is lots more involved in making a turbo spool and it comes down to the total package of the entire engine, not just the fact that the pistons are a little higher compresion. JE pistons are great...I use them my self. The point is they are used and who knows the real condition of them. The most important thing for use and making power is ring seal. If its not there, your not gonna make any power. You would have to get new rings if you bought the used JE's. Stan, your going through all this trouble to make a great motor...save a little extra money and do the sure thing, buy some new off the shelf JE's for like $450 and do it the right way.....Mike

Default Re: Piston, piston and piston............. (ninesecrx)

everything else the same, a motor with more compression induces more exhaust volume, more exhaust volume at an earlier rpm will spool the turbo sooner, that is a fact......of course matched components with a common goal in mind are most efficient, but the bottom line is, if you have a t3/t04e and 9:1 @ 14 psi and the same turb with the same components with 10:1 @ 14psi, amongst other things, the power band will come on sooner on the 10:1 compression motor. one thing i'd like to mention is the inportance of piston dome design relative to power production/efficiency; endyn and bisi ezerioha have proven that any quality piston can be made super with proper piston top massaging...maybe consider sending the pistons you decide on to endyn...
