Default piston clearance

So, I just got my block back from the machine shop and I am a little worried about the clearance they set it to. To start with here are the parts:

-Golden Eagle sleeves
-JE pistons, 1.2, 1.2, 2.5 ring package
-JE pro seal rings

This is for a turbo running 15lbs boost daily, 22lbs occasionaly.

The set the clearance to .0045. Is this too large? This seems loose to me, as I have never built anything that loose before. Opinions?

If your speaking of the ring gap, then yes that is waaay too much. In terms of piston to wall clearance then that is fine, I've used as much as .005" in high boost applications but it seems to be a little noisy due to piston slap....which will cause no harm with that amount of clearance.

no it is piston to wall clearance.. rings will be filed to fit.

will this clearance hurt longevity of the motor.stress the rings? or cause a lot of oil burning?

should be good. as you boost pistons heat up and expand. so you should boost with no worries.

This is what I am worried about, this is a daily driver not a race car. Does this seem too lose for something that is going to be cruising down the freeway?

No don't worry about it. JE uses little silicone in their pistons and your GE sleeves are rock hard. You WILL have a little noise from piston (I don't really want to call it slap) noise at start up, just let it idle in the morning a little longer than your used to before driving it.

Some DSM guys buidl their motors with .006-.0065 piston wall clearence.

If you had a piston like CP or Weisco I would say it is a little big. Seems like people like to run those tight. But JE, Arias, Ross are a very hard piston and loose is just fine.

No you're fine. It will burn a little more oil than a stock Honda, but this is to be expected.
