piston and bore opinions
hey guys, this is my first turbo build, im building a b18b1, stock sleeves, good rods, and forged pistons, a little porting, all Aft. market valvetrain, with a t3/t4, 15-20 psi. shooting for a reliable 300 whp. i would like some input on affordable forged pistons, and which bore to use, (i have stock bore) and what compression ratio to use for this set up. thanks guys.
my personal opinion i would take .020 (.5mm) over, because all pistons arent the same and some p-w clearances are a little different.
when i worked at a local machine shop in high school, we didnt order pistons for the block, we bored/honed the block to the pistons.
that is just from my personal experience.
as for what pistons to use, i have used these 3 in this order. SRP, JE, CP.
the srp's were in my first engine. worked very well. b16 low boost.
the je's were a little more aggressive build. and lasted the small turbo and lasted with the t3t67.
the cp's are in my current build. it is over 700hp, over 30+ psi and holding well.
all compression ratios were 9:1 which should suit you well if you are doing a pump gas build. my next will be 10-11:1.
hope that helps.
