Pics: AEBS / Professional Products Intake + Edelbrock 4760 Comparison
Just snapped these today... a few people asked me for them, I figured I'd share.
Aebs / PP suggests all motor and FI intended use.
I sold the two I had ... I think I got one or two left @ our warehouse.
From the looks of it, its an inch + change longer than my ITR intake manifold runners, and the plenum is a little larger (with a 65'ish mm TB opening).
The sheet in the box claims AEBS developed the manifold and it makes like 20-something HP vs. a stock ITR manifold on the same motor.... PP has a PDF here of the testing: http://www.professional-produc...r.pdf
Enjoy!

Re: Pics: AEBS / Professional Products Intake + Edelbrock 4760 Comparison (Sinitron)
Just a slight correction...
If you run the numbers, the actual 'average' increase is 15.6hp and 13.8tq. Very good, but that's not the 20.7 they advertise.
They dyno'd the stock setup starting at 3250 and the Typhoon setup starting at 3750. This is enough to throw off the numbers. If you average from 3750 to 8000 on both setups, you'll get the numbers I got.

Yeah the whole PDF is kinda shady. I'd like to see some individual dynos from other peoples cars...

the runners are smooooooooooooooooooth.
Up in the plenum its 'ok'.. its still smooth, you can see where the two pieces of the casting meet. looks very similar to the vic-x internally, and the way the runners taper out of the plenum.

Re: Pics: AEBS / Professional Products Intake + Edelbrock 4760 Comparison (Sinitron)
and let me tell you guys, this thing is CHEEEP! (price wise)
its called the "typhoon" IM.
This manifold is patterned after the popular JDM Type R manifold with some additional refinements. The plenum chamber has been lengthened to provide additional plenum volume when used with a supercharger, turbo or nitrous applications. This reduces starvation of last port runner, a common problem with stock manifolds. Nitrous bosses are located on the underside of the manifold. Available in a highly polished show version as well as a standard satin finish. Features a 65mm inlet.
Nitrous Bosses on underside of runners
65mm diameter inlet to plenum chamber
Plenum longer and larger than stock
Least expensive HP manifold available
All vacuum ports moved to back side
Areas between runners webbed for appearance and better polished finish
Available with show polished finish
PRICE:
AEBS Typhoon Intake Manifold
Fits B16A & B18C5 (Not for GS-R heads) $239
Polish finish
AEBS Typhoon Intake Manifold
Fits B16A & B18C5 (Not for GS-R heads) $199
Satin finish

Re: Pics: AEBS / Professional Products Intake + Edelbrock 4760 Comparison (Sinitron)
I have never tested a Typhoon IM yet, but I have seen alot of intake manifold testing. It is hard for me to believe the advertized power numbers. An intake manifold change alone will not usually give that much of a power gain. I cannot wait to see its testing in person. If the Typhoon makes the numbers PP claims it will be incredible but I really doubt it.

Re: Pics: AEBS / Professional Products Intake + Edelbrock 4760 Comparison (Muckman)
I saw a non-polished Pro Products manifold. The manifold looked like crap! Talk about cheap! The port entry from the plenum looked messy, the vacuum ports looked glued in, I doubt if they will hold up with boost. The manifold was bead blasted after machining.
My overall impression was, you get whay you pay for, and I'm not paying for that! Its like buying APC products!
There's nothing professional about Professional Products stuff.

Re: Pics: AEBS / Professional Products Intake + Edelbrock 4760 Comparison (Marauder)
we were trying to get one of these and get it dynod and start selling them since we are already an aebs dealer...
omniman mentioned it in one of his posts and I researched it more and talked with some people and this is supposed to be the shizznit for sure.
if any people with a b16/itr head in so cal is looking for a new intake manifold. contact me or camp1320 and we can probably get u some free or cheap dyno time with purchase of the IM and willing to test it out on your car

Re: Pics: AEBS / Professional Products Intake + Edelbrock 4760 Comparison (Bob-DC2)
my question is why would you want to have all the vacuum ports on the back anyway? Does this make it any easier? it jst means i have to get new hoses. Has anhonen tried this yet?

Re: Pics: AEBS / Professional Products Intake + Edelbrock 4760 Comparison (R6Elmo)
My Edelbrock manifold has them all in the back....and I didn't have to extend any of them. Only the purge solenoid line from the fuel rail to the plenum needed to be longer, but that was with the parts kit with the manifold.
With most of the lines in the back, they clean up the engine bay, making it look cleaner.

There was alot of interest in this IM in the ITR forum, until a couple guys tested it and found no increase in hp at all over a stock ITR IM. The 20 hp gain boast is bullshit.

Yeah I know there was minimal gains on the type-r but I am wondering about on boosted apps...I think there is a difference between the two.
