if you haven't done it before, pay someone else or get someone there that has done it...

you have to take out the gearing assembly

It's not that difficult, but have you actually opened a tranny case and played around in there? If you haven't worked with it before, it might be a bit much.

But once you're in there, it's not that hard to install a phantom grip. Basically you stick it in the diff and release the pins.

I've done it many times, but i wouldn't recommend it if you haven't before or aren't very mechanically inclined.

I rather mechanically inclined and i will be attending wyotech in june. What im thinking about doing is taking apart my tranny from my old sohc and seing how difficult it is and then if i can figure it out i will do it on my ls tranny.

Ya, my sweet *** fagit grip did this...

The PG put a bit more pressure on one side of the diff pin, seized the gear, and broke the holding pin for the diff. Amazing? well... After 30 mins of trying to get that ******* peice of **** out of my diff, it would not come out, I had to cut my diff housing apart to remove it...

What does PG have to say? : Nothing, Not even a comment

This is my third Phantom Grip I have installed.. The others are still ok, but they were DSM's and they used a stronger spring tension on the PG.

As far as installing it, its pretty easy if you are somewhat inclined.

People need to remember with a phantom grip, your still useing the stock diff. Stock diffs break... you pay for what you get.
By the way, sohc trans. are a little more tricky cause of the smaller case so if you can do it on that, you should be fine with the ls trans.

if you looked at how the pg works u would realize how shitty a design and such a bad idea it is....i mean....would u shove a big wrench between your cam gears if u needed to lock them down?

Why is the phantom a piece? I was thinking of using one on our teams race car.

Look at the picture about 8 posts up

if you want your differential to look like that, i say go for the Phantom Grip!!!

If you want your differential to actually LAST, get a quaife or kaaz or type r.

I just recently had my Quaife installed in my gsr tranny. I have rebuilt a total of like 8 motors and like 5 swaps or so, so I am pretty mechanically inclined. I was a little scared to try it because I had never seen the inside of the casing except for what I read in the HELMs. I watched the acura techs do it and if I had to do another one I would just do it myself. Its not that hard, but I personally think its something you should watch the first time around, esecially if this is your daily driver.

Things to know when splitting the case......There are line up marks that make everything fit like a glove when you put it back together. It took reading the Honda manual and many hours fighting the dam thing before I got it right....Now I rebuild them in less than 30 min. Just installed a PG on a 96 D-series trans...three words....GRIND SPIDER GEARS.....Find a factory LSD/ it would be a better choice...
