Default peak & hold vs saturated injector question

Ok, I know the difference between the two injector types.

Here is a thread I'll use in referance to this.
http://www.hondaswap.com/forum...14723

BUT... my question is..

Is there a side effect or damage the can be caused in using a peak & hold type injector in place of a saturated injector without the use of a resistor box?

yeah, you'll fry the injector drivers in your ECU quickly.

How can you tell if that happens?

Reason being. I have ranS-AFC with 390cc DSM injectors for over a 1yr now. With absolutely no problems and everyone is always saying that a resistor box is needed or resistor attached to the injector power wire. Not the case for me.

Been waiting. No sign of anything.

Greeeeat....

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by MSD Ignition &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Before going into the differences, keep in mind that the two are not compatible! Interchanging the different style injectors can result in slower delivery rate, overheating of the injector or driver and even engine damage!</TD></TR></TABLE>

You see, I had no idea what type of circuitry ran the 390cc DSM injectors. At the time, I was on the dyno and I didnt' have be enough injectors so there were some "380cc DSM injectors" laying around (at that time I was told they were 380's but their 390's I now found out). So we put them in to see if they would work and they did. Just perfect and have ever since. I now know that they are peak & hold injectors and as we all know need resistors. I plan on changing my setup so I don't plan on changing this on my current car but when I use this setup again I will add the resistors.

pop the cover on your ECU and touch the STA460C SIL arrays. I'll be willing to bet they are getting VERY VERY VERY hot. You had just be grateful that Honda over-engineered the output stage in their ECUs big time.

I'm not sure I want to. Maybe I'll just ignore this info that I now realize isn't 100% right and everything will be ok.

Thanks for you help on this. to Honda for allowing this to work though.

Oddly enough I'm not surprised nothing was damaged... at least one other h-t user as well as myself were sold some injectors as part of an upgrade package that were "drop in" replacements that required no other mods. After successfully running them for two years my heart almost stopped when I pulled them out to sell them and they read ~3ohms impedence. Subsequent tests showed no ecu damage after a year of use on a p72 ecu as well as another year running off my aem ems. Go figure (both VERY well engineered circuits as someone else said). I'm glad nothing happened but I know better now and won't be making that mistake again.

Yep you just got lucky... the injector drivers will go eventually on most ECUs if you use low impedence injectors.

How was this guy so lucky? Does it have something to do with the AFC HACK?

Reason i'm asking, a kid sold me his built GSR turbo hatch and it doesn't run. Saw he had DSM injectors, but no resistor box. He said the car ran like this for years and all of a sudden stopped running right. Does the AFC supress this or something?
