Default painting block questions

Well after 3 months i finally got my block back from GE (hint: please someone host pics for me) and well the block i sent out was not so clean and i want to clean it up. I got the engine from a junk yard since i blew up everyone i had on hand. Needless to say it is covered with some white chalky crap that i dont think will all caome off. My idea was to clean it up as best as possible and paint it. Has anyone done this. Ive seen it done but im afraid that the paint will flake off or be easily removed if a little fuel or brake clean or something gets on it. So how does the 2000+ degree paint hold up and will it last.

I just painted mine with high temp header spray paint i got at NAPA. It's been on there for about a year...nothing has flaked off, looks good. I think it makes the engine bay look more cluttered. I'm considering stripping it and just cleaning up the block if i ever rebuild it.

dont paint it, just put it next to like a propane heater or something to get the block really warm. afterwards use simple green, brake cleaner, and engine cleaner. spray it all over the block and just go to town with a heavy steel brush. it should look good as new as long as you get the block warm first.

Hey Josh. I need to talk to you about my build.

Anyways, I can host pics for you. And to answer your question, you could have it glass beaded, but it will make the block really prone to stains. What I use on aluminum parts is a plastic media spray----no damage to aluminum and brings it back to its original finish.

You can always powder coat the block. Might be expensive but it was free for me. Came out pretty nice. Really easy to clean.

Painted block, dont you like how the open loop wastegate turned the block black? Also with a high temp spray painted block youll attract a lot of dirt, and you can only use water to clean it. Simple green, break parts cleaner, or anything else will strip the paint right off. I used aircraft paint remover to remove all the old paint, then cleaned it with simple green then used a wire brush on a drill to polish the block up nicely. and....

thats the finished product.

Thank you for the props, i highly recommend taking the time to clean it. All i have to do is spray simple green on my block followed by break parts cleaner and it looks new again.
