Default overheating, only after long (45+ minute) drives

so my car coolant gauge usually stays horizontal for most of my drives...
recently i drove a 2.5 hour trip somewhere and the needle would stay horizontal, but would rise once i got stuck in some traffic.

it would start to rise while I inch up during the traffic jams....
the needle would rise up to the 10 o'clock position, but never went past that...
i blasted the heater and it brought it down...
no coolant or oil mixture problems...

Radiator fan kicks in (b18turbo slimline fan) that was installed a couple weeks ago, but this problem came up this past weekend...

any thoughts on what i can do? I plan on raising the mounts on my hood to help dissipate heat (even though i hate how that looks)

make sure the fan is set up the right way, puller or pusher.

Did you check to see if you have a sticky thermostat?

Did you recently drain and refill your coolant system? You most likely have air in the system.

It doesn't rise up if you just go out and boost hard for a few minutes?

I doubt its the radiator. I drive my car wherever and get shafted with traffic a lot, and I NEVER have had an overheating problem.

Dude just put a nitrous sprayer on the radiator, duh

Do you have enough coolant? Is there a leak anywhere?
I would check thermostat, and radiator cap first.

if that doesn't work try driving off the grand canyon, you'll get all the air you need to cool your water down plus you wont have the run the heater anymore!

As a quick fix you could open your sunroof, keep your other windows closed, turn the heat on full blast toward your head, turn the side vents off, and direct the 2 vents blowing air straight of of your sunroof. I drive like this 24/7, rain, snow, shine, etc

i was having overheating problems too, was happening only when i would boost for a while or get stuck in traffic, my reservior would overflow. turned out a complete coolant flush fixed the problem, no more being scare of traffic jams for me. so give it a shot, if you havent done so already.
