I torqued my brand new arp head studs to 80 lbs with the moly lube. I did it in two sequence. Should I be worried? Can I loosen and retorque?

Always read the directions, I know its too late. I say loosen and retourque. Ive reused my arp's about 5 times. I dont see why you would have a problem.

no dont loosen them. Just use them as they are. Just pay attention next time and torque them in like 4-5 steps. I did mine in 8 steps. best to be safe than sorry.

thats what I torque my head studs to but I'm using AEBS. when I was using arps I torqued them down to 76ftlb.

3-4 steps is plenty. If its your first time torquing them, loosen and retorque them to the same specs about 3 times so you don't have to pull the cams to retorque them in a few hundred miles.

If I loosen them and retorque to 70 lbs. Wouldn't my hg leak now because I already torqued the hg down to 80 lbs before?

No it will be fine. I even took the head back off after tourqing down (forgot dowel pin in cam cap) and put it back on, tq'ed back down and everythings fine 10-15psi later!!!

Umm you would still need to retorque them anyhow because after the block reaches operating temperature, the threads expand at a different rate than the studs, etc.

Retorquing it cold is just about as useless as washing my car three times in a row

Not true. You are trying to reach an optimal amount of stretch. Just like rod bolts. Once this has been done. You are done.

Which engine are you running? The H series studs are torqued to 78-80ftlbs.

If you are running D series studs... then yea... you went overboard.

I believe B series are in the low 70's so a few extra lbs is not going to lead to severe bolt stretch. The ARP's are designed to be used time and time again unline stock studs.

The proper way install them is to torque the actual studs in the block, which I put at around 12-15ftlbs then a 3 stage torque sequence. 30-58-79 in the criss-cross sequence as noted in your helms manual.

I have a b18c1. Arp says to torque to around 65 lbs with the molylube and 80 lbs with motor oil.
