Its all in the muffler/mifflers/cat combination you use. If you have a round muffler at the end it wont be that quiet.
I think I'm going to run a oval magnaflow muffler at the end and maybe a round one up as close to the flex as I can. That should make it pretty quiet with a nice deep tone.

Please do explain why a round muffler is different from an oval muffler? Especially a magnaflow that is astraigh through design.
I don't think you really know what you're talking about.
ya ha. idk man im running 2.5 and im making more then enough power for the street. i just routed my open dump farther away but it still isnt far enough lol. i hate all that carbon under my hood, plus my car is sucking up all co2 and giving me a nasty headache.
my dump and down pipe run under the oil pan and just past it ive never had an issue with fumes what so ever i dont even run a shifter boot i can see straight to the ground even
as for the end of my exhaust i have a small resonator, not to quite it down but to change the note of the exhaust where its a little less raspy. the only benifit i have got out of my open dump is the look i get from people when i hit boost is ridiculous like can there jaws drop any farther?
mine isnt routed far enough it gets sucked right to the top of the hood and into the vents.
its hallowed out whats it matter my car was more quiet without the damm exhaust unless your a punk *** street racer that wants it quiet so the cops dont come chase ya down or know who you are so is this the case.
it has been said on here a few times now a turbo's car isnt anywhere near as loud as an n/a is

original poster, if you do go open dump, make sure it goes under your engine and make a tip down. you don't want it anywhere within a few feet of your intake. if the engine sucks in that gas it will rob you of power
i run mine right out of my drivers side bumper! 1 3/4 inches of bad *** lol.

as for the loud exhaust. my car has 2-1/2 inch straight pipe and its alot more quieter then my bud3ys s2k until i let off then its louder then anything i have owned except my mustang, and well that was a v8 with dual 2-1/2 inch piping with h.
Plus thats not what he is asking and yes you can run the dump back into the exhaust with no issues. Will it be qieter most likely if the dump is open under the hood but thats not definite and it also depends on what you consider qiet guys on this site consider a k series with an open downpipe not loud so its really up to you.
having such a open exhaust would i have to worry about back pressure when routing the dumb back in down stream. personally i dont like loud exhaust notes under the hood, i prefer to be able to here my turbo working.
i know the main advantage of a open dumb is less back pressure in the exhaust pipe for the turbo.

I have this exact setup in 3" on my boosted integra with no cat and it's not that quiet.

Even though you asked why a ROUND muffler was different than an OVAL one...I think you meant sound wise. SO lets see...they are both similar but one will be quieter than the other. Hint: Think inside the box.
. Inside a muffler, you'll find a deceptively simple set of tubes with some holes in them. They are designed to reflect the sound waves produced by the engine in such a way that they partially cancel themselves out.
I know the one with a turbo will be the quieter car. I had a 16g and the same exhaust as you (oval magnaflow). It wasn't bad with normal driving it was just the drone that bothered me. I added a big *** resonator and that helped a little bit but it was still a little on the loud side for my taste.

Question: What's the sound difference between a round muffler and an oval muffler?
Answer: There is no difference in sound between the round or oval muffler. The only reason they are different shapes is for fitting reasons. One may fit better than the other.

STOP THINKING IN THE BOX! It's clearly not working for you.

Please explain oh great one. Tell us your theory. Like already mentioned you're not intelligent so stop talking. Here before I get outta hand with showing all of h-t how retarded you are. Which I really would enjoy doing btw. Here is a link directly from magnaflows website in the FAQ sections and just in case you don't wanna click on it I'll post it for you.

to further it..sound waves go inside the muffler casing via the holes. Now what actually muffles the sound is what is inside the casing, which is usually fiberglass. Obviously the more sound deadening material inside the muffler the more it will muffle. What muffler will have more sound deadening material inside? A 3" ID muffler with a round 4" casing? That is giving only 1" of area inside for sound deadening material. Or a oval muffler with 3" ID with a 4"x9" area for sound deadening material? Obviously the oval one.
