open downpipe....question.
Well my car will be done in a few hours. Then, Im taking it home from college. I have to get my flex pipe welded onto the downpipe and get it all fitted correctly. However, by the time i get the car done and started up all the exhaust shops will be closed. But I have the downpipe bolted up, its just a few inches or so short of the cat (where the flex pipe is going). I can bring the flex pipe with me home tonight and get an exhaust shop to do all the work in the morning (about an hour or so drive to my house...60 miles). Now running open downpipe...is that safe to drive that far? Im sure its going to be loud...but how loud?
anything else I should know? thanks guys.

Its not really that loud, not near as loud as open header or something like that. Plus if its close to your cat some of the exhaust will actually be going through the b-pipe and rear section
i ran open downpipe for a few months... its really not that bad. only time it bothered me was when i drove for 2 hours on the highway... the gas fumes get to you after a while.
but i know people that run open downpipe constantly with no problems
so you'll be alright

i ran my old setup which was an NA setup and it was EXTREAMLY load w/ an open dc sport header... i noticed that since installing the turbo the exhaust is actually quieter so that leads me to belive that open downpipe will be quieter then open header!

I switched from a stock manifold (open header) to a DC JDM 4-1 for ***** and giggles until the turbo stuff goes on and its 100% louder. It is sooo much louder than all my friends open DP boosted cars

its not that bad if you have the windows down and ****. the only reason i put the exhaust back on was because it was starting to get cold, and having the heater on and the windows up with open downpipe sucked.
I ran an open down pipe ... actually just a short 8" section of pipe shooting straight toward the ground. It's a little loud, but the turbo whine is pretty nice. Cars that are directly behind you, with their windows rolled up, won't even be able to hear your car. With their windows rolled down, they'll be sorta be able to hear you -- it's really not as bad as you'd think.
I was in the same situation as you were and had to run open downpipe for a day. It's not incredibly loud (Harley loud) but more of a low rumble then anything. I actually liked the sound of it, mainly because you could hear the turbo whine like nobody's business.
You'll be fine, just enjoy it
...and be sure to keep your windows down.

Never heard of that before, you must have been running super rich, I ran open downpipe for a few weeks, it was awesome. I had it worst than all of you, I had a cel so the fumes in my cabin made my eyes tear

LOL this brings back memories. I ran open DP on my boosted BB1 and when the WG opened up the car sounded like a jet from outside the car. It was awesome
