3" downpipe to a 2.25" stock exhaust pipe? disadvantages?
im thinking about running a 3" downpipe straight to a 2.25" stock exhaust pipe. i know im going to increase the backpressure but this is just for daily driving and on the highway. i dont really care about power. i just want to keep it as quite as possible. so my question is, is this going to be hard on my turbo or any seals running the 3" pipe to the 2.25" pipe? when i go the track every few weeks ill just take off the stock exhaust and run an open pipe. thanks

there are plenty of cars that aren't loud with a 3" exhaust. even my car with an N1 style muffler with the baffle on it is super quiet. i have a resonator which helps with the sound a lot. i wouldn't use the stock exhaust... period.

If noise is what you are worried about you can run 2 straight through ultra flows and the car will be super quiet. Run one where the cat would go and the other where the normal muffler would be.

your increasing exhaust pressure everywhere which is not a good thing. you will need a retune which will smooth out the higher egt's your going to have from so much backpressure.
why not run a 2.5" muffler like an oem rsx or s2000?

you can run larger resonator, high flow cat, larger muffler. you can get resonators and muffler to be straight through and not loose power.. first of all, how much power are you making? you can only go so far with 2.25 stock

you can do that if you want. wont hurt much, if you run open WG you could get away with 50-75whp more with no problems.

I always thought the stock exhaust was 2", what models came with the larger exhaust? Anyway, 2" or 2.25" crush bent will definitly increase the back pressure, but I know how you feel about loud exhausts. What's quite to one person is loud to another.
I running a 2.5" downpipe, no cat, into a thermal 2.25" catback and I wouldn't want it any louder. I feel like I should run something bigger, its tough.
I'm also in victoria BTW

**** i didnt see that you said stock exhaust. I was thinking a straight through 2.25" which flows way more than a stock one.
