Ok please don't hate me....
alright, i've never posted in the forced induction area.. so please spare me.
Ok i was looking at Jackson Superchargers last night and i found out they have one for the engine i will soon be getting (DOHC ZC)...after seeing the set up i started thinking....
now i can understand the basic theory of a turbo/supercharger; forcing more air into the engine and creating a bigger bang with more fuel/air in the same area thus producing more power from the same engine.
Now that brings up the question, can you run a supercharger and a turbo?
I am aware that a turbo is "free" power being as that it runs off the exhaust, and a supercharger is run much like the A/C or alternator robbing a small amount of power from the engine. But there are obvious diffrences...a supercharger will produce a set amount of boost no matter what the rpms.
As where a turbo spools faster with the more exhaust being produced. Now if i did do a supercharger AND turbo set up, the turbo would have to be a larger slower spooling one mostly used only for the upper RPMS.
ok i'll shut up now and let some pros put in their $.02
thanks a million guys

Well, you can, you just shouldn't. The screws or impeller of the supercharger will just be more crap for the turbo to push air through. Plus it would be 2x as expensive, 2x as heavy, and it isn't like a turbo or supercharger by itself can't make every ouce of power you could hope for.
A viable "hybrid" system would be a twin turbo. Some twin turbo setups use different sized turbos to take advantage of fast spool and high flow.

Re: Ok please don't hate me.... (beepy)
yeah i'm aware of the sequential turbo set up, just like on the RX-7 TT. But i can see what you mean by the supercharger doing more harm than good when the turbo spools up. maybe i'll just get the supercharger, i think i'll try it before a turbo

This has already being discussed.
If you got time and money to spare then knock yourself out.
Does not work good in conjection from past tests.
McGuire sponsor a civic a while back with HKS turbo charger and Jackson supercharger.
Can't seem to find the link..

Re: (Nihilation)
ok, that brings up a second thing...can i run a 55 shot with a supercharger? i'm most likely gonna ditch this supercharger and a turbo idea

It was an ITR, not a civic.

Re: Ok please don't hate me.... (Dr Pooface)
yeah , i understand the base idea of nitrious also, but as with almost everything i know about my car its all in theory to me. But i've heard things about if you run turbo/supercharger then you can't go spray
but what kinda results can i expect by running a supercharger and a spray of 55 shot? i'm guessing about 175/185 hp after the supercharger

-In most applications, nitrous is meant to help build the rpms quicker, along with giving a lot more torque down low, in order to decrease spool up times. Helpful for those running large turbo setups.
-If you run a roots type blower you have almost instant boost and nitrous is less likely to be used in conjunction.
-Turbo will make more power than a supercharger because its more efficient.

The way the car was modified on the outside I wasn't sure it resembled an ITR. Thank you for the correction.

actually yes you can.
as long as you make some sort of blower bypass valve.
it has been used in detroit diesel engines since the 50's
the super charger giver the boost at the lower rpms and when the turbo spools and starts to push more air than the supercharer can take and then build up pressure then a bypass valve will open and divert the air arround the sc and feed the engine directly.this is realitily easy with a centrifical sc vs a roots .
is it worth it ?? who knows prob not.
but to every one sayng its not possible it is but will be expensive to setup but will def. will be different.

Maybe you can do it. Maybe I can do it. But this guy definately cannot. Don't confuse the boy. He can't even use the search feature correctly. Just make it easy on him and say no. No, you cannot use a supercharger and a turbo together. No.

Re: Ok please don't hate me.... (Vanilla Ic3)
ok, jackass, i DID search...but explain to me how i would search that topic? think about it. Think then answer...and if a current company has been doing it since the 50s then obviously it can be done. Would it be worth the work? Maybe. Will i ever do it? most likely not.
It was a simple question, i already said i don't know forced induction very well other than all that i have read.
get over it, move on to another thread.
as for the people who were very informative thank you very much!
