oil return causing smoke?
If the oil return line on a turbo car is bent or isn't returning oil fast enough can this cause the car to smoke/ burn oil.
when you fallow the car it bellows out blue smoke like the motor is going bad. the guy told me it was because the oil return line was not returning the oil fast enough is this possible?
thanks for your time Adam

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i think what could have happened is if the oil return line is blocked or partialy blocked, it can create too much presure for the turbo seals to handle and the smoke u see is probrably from a blown seal making oil go into the exhaust..

if your return is twisted even the slightest bit, it will build pressure and make tons of smoke. The feed is pressure, but the return is gravity, so it needs to be the straightest line between the two points...

yes it blows really bad when you get on it hard.

If oil pressure is too high, you can easily blow oil seals in the turbo. This will cause you to burn oil and smoke blue. Like someone was saying, if the turbo oil drain line is too small, restricted, or kinked, this will raise the oil pressure at the turbo, causing turbo seals to blow. If this is what you are experiencing, you need to install new seals in your turbocharger, and fix the oil pressure issue. Some factory vehicles have too high of an oil pressure for the turbocharger that has been added on. You can make an oil restrictor in the oil feed line. This will lower the oil pressure at the turbo if done properly.

Re: oil return causing smoke? (fast93accord)
posting this 'cause everyone posts their problem, but never end the thread with an answer so the rest of us can learn
i put on a new oil return line for my turbo. no more smoke.
i remembered seeing liquid drip from my DP when unbolting it from the exhaust at the races. i also had some running down the DP where it bolts to the turbo.
all this clicked when i read another post on here about someone who had a kink in their return line forcing the oil out of a seal on the turbo and into the exhaust. DUH!
so, fixing the return line fixed my problem.. not sure if this applies to you. if so, do it SOON before you blow a seal.
keep the line as short as possible. be sure the line runs downward as much as possible; it works by gravity mostly.. and NO KINKS. hope this can help someone.. i've had this problem for MONTHS.
