OIL QUESTION
Please correct me if I am wrong. not trying to start a flamer thread but I had some thoughts going on today, please read ahead.
From what I have heard the EPA has regulated a chemical called RDP (i think) to be taken out of most consumer level oils during 2012. I have been advised that this chemical makes a glass like bond to the metal for librcating the parts and it is activated by heat and pressure. The EPA has mandated that this chemical is taken from 1500 PPM to 500 PPM. I have seen many motors being eatin up lately at the machine shop and I believe this is the cause. There is an API rating on oils, on the front it will say either SG/SH or SN/SL... from what ive understood correct me if im wrong, the SG/SH is what you want for a high performance vehicle, the SN/SL has a lower RDP PPM hence the eating up of cam lobes, rocker arms etc....
looking for pros to chime in...
I have been advised to go with a castrol motorcycle oil at 10-40w for turbo charged applications due to the high RDP levels ... anyone know anything about this?>
thanks!
