Default Oil Pressure Drop After New Pump Install

I finally finished replacing the damaged thrust washer bearings and the ITR oil pump (with another ITR unit) this afternoon. Took it up the road for a test run... everything seemed fine. After I shut off the car and returned to recheck things, I noticed that at idle the gauge was reading 18-20psi (900 rpm). I drove it again...but now noticing that I was only getting 40psi at 60mph. The previous ITR oil pump I had was around 60psi at the same driving speed. At full throttle, the gauge does climp up to 80psi normally. Could it be a gauge that is going bad (AutoMeter 0-100psi mechanical), kinked nylon oil pressure line, or something else more devistating? I know I torqued everything down to specs and have checked for leaks. I did noticed some metal shavings (bad thrust washers) in the old motor oil. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

my thinking is that your bearings are fucked, and you will need to rebuild the bottom end.

I did replace them yesterday. Like I stated before, the oil pressure reaches 60-65psi at cold start and after a few minutes of driving it drops down [15-20psi at idle and around 40psi when coasting around 45mph]. This **** is starting to get on my nerves considering it is the second "new" oil pump I have installed in the last 3 months.

You sure the surfaces which the bearings were mating to were not ruined?

I checked the surface before I installed the new bearings. Once they were installed I manually turned the crank 4 revolutions and everything seemed okay. Ahhhhh!....This **** is really driving me crazy.

are you checking anything or just slapping **** together, cause that is bad news if you aren't checking any clearance's.

did you put a new O ring on the top of the pump????

you may be picking up oil and dumping it out the top of the pickup before it really reaches the pump.

OR try some mobile 1 15w-50

Yes, I did install a new o-ring on top and a new gasket at the oil pick/pump. I only USE Mobil 1 15w-50 in my car....ever since I went TuRbOcHaRgEd...

i too will have to say, that the problem lies in your berings. i went through this with a friend's car, changed the pump two times. when we pulled the rod caps, the bearings were bad and the crank was damaged! good luck finding the source of your problems!
