i see, thanks for the help guys, or else i would have had a big mess on the garage floor.
so i'll go grab a nut that fits that thread, and weld or JB weld it onto the outside of the pan and then screw in the fittnig?

You can jb the threads and screw the fitting all the way in to the base. You don't need to torque it. Let the jb on the threads cure and then put another layer on the outside base of the fitting. As long as your metal is clean, that barb isn't ever coming out.
Anyone who tells you this won't work hasn't done it before. Wether they've only used higher end fittings or never modified an oil pan at all, they haven't done it.

i've had my oil pan tapped the exact same way with a threaded brass barbed fitting held in with JB weld. no leaks and its been like that for over 2 years.
everyone claiming that the fitting will "rip" through the metal of the oil pan has no clue.
never underestimate the powa of JB weld yO!!!!!
